Admit Card and Hall Ticket Name Mismatch in Uttarakhand
When the name on an admit card or call letter does not match the identity proof you will carry: what exam bodies say about it, which paper lets you in, and what to do in the days before the exam.
An admit card name mismatch can keep a candidate out of an exam, because the name on the admit card has to match the photo identity proof shown at the gate. Bank recruitment call letters say so in terms, and allow a candidate who has changed a name only on an original Gazette notification, marriage certificate or affidavit.

An admit card name mismatch is the one name problem with an hour attached to it. The exam is at nine, the gate closes at half past eight, and the person at the desk has a list and no time. This page explains admit card name mismatch and hall ticket name mismatch for candidates in Uttarakhand, and what to carry.
We do not deal with exam bodies. We prepare the Gazette notification, which is one of the papers exam bodies name for a candidate who has changed a name. For entrance tests, read name mismatch in NEET and JEE application.
Where Does the Name on an Admit Card Come From?
An admit card, hall ticket or call letter is printed from the application form. The exam body does not check the name again in between.
- For a recruitment or an entrance test, it is the name you typed, or the name the form took from your Aadhaar.
- For a board examination, it is the name the school sent in its list of candidates.
- For a university examination, it is the name on the examination form, drawn from the enrolment record.
So a wrong name on an admit card is a wrong name in an application that was submitted weeks or months ago. By the time the card is issued, the form is closed. That is why this problem is so often discovered with days to spare.
What Do Exam Bodies Say About It?
Each body prints its own instructions on the admit card and in the notification. The clearest wording is in the call letters for bank recruitment, and many other bodies follow the same pattern.
| Point | What the call letter says |
|---|---|
| The name | The name on the call letter, as given at registration, should exactly match the name on the photo identity proof |
| A mismatch | Where the two differ, the candidate will not be allowed to appear |
| A changed name | A candidate who has changed a name is allowed only on producing the original Gazette notification, the original marriage certificate, or an affidavit in original |
| Doubt about identity | Where identity is in doubt, the candidate may not be allowed to appear |
| The identity proof | A currently valid photo identity proof, in original, with a photocopy |
Two things stand out. The match asked for is exact. And the way through is named: a Gazette notification, a marriage certificate or an affidavit, in original. A photocopy, or a copy on a phone, is not what the instruction says.
Other bodies word it differently, and some are stricter or looser. Read the instructions on your own admit card, every line. They are the rule for that hall.
What Are the Two Kinds of Mismatch?
| Point | The admit card is wrong | Your name has changed |
|---|---|---|
| What happened | A slip in the application, or in the exam body's printing | You married, or changed your name, between applying and the exam |
| Example | Admit card: Rajesh Sing. Identity proof: Rajesh Singh | Admit card: Sunita Bisht. Identity proof: Sunita Rawat |
| First step | Write to the exam body's helpdesk at once | Find the paper that records the change |
| At the gate | An identity proof that matches the card if you have one, and the class 10 certificate | The Gazette notification, marriage certificate or affidavit, in original |
There is a third situation that looks like these two and is neither: your identity proofs do not agree among themselves. Then choose the one that matches the admit card, and carry that.
Which Case Is Yours?
| The situation | What to do | Paper to carry |
|---|---|---|
| One letter differs | Write to the helpdesk. Carry an identity proof with the admit card's spelling if any of yours has it | The class 10 certificate, and an affidavit |
| A surname is missing on one of them | The same. Pick the identity proof closest to the card | An affidavit that both forms are one person |
| The admit card differs from your own confirmation page | The body's slip. Write at once and keep the reply | The confirmation page and the reply |
| You married after applying, and your identity proof is now in the married name | Carry an older identity proof in the maiden name if you still hold one | The marriage certificate, in original |
| You changed your name by Gazette after applying | Nothing to correct. The card is in the name you applied in | The Gazette notification, in original |
| The photograph or the date of birth is also wrong | Write to the helpdesk and telephone it. This is more serious than a name | Everything, and extra photographs |
| A board exam admit card is wrong | Tell the school the same day | The school handles it with the board |
In every row there is something to do before the day. Do not plan to argue it at the gate.
What Should You Do Before the Exam?
Step 1: Download the admit card the day it is released
Not the night before. Read every particular, and every instruction.
Step 2: Put it beside the identity proof you mean to carry
Compare the name letter by letter, with the spaces and the order.
Step 3: Compare it with your confirmation page
That tells you whose slip it is, yours or the exam body's.
Step 4: Write to the exam body's helpdesk at once
By email, with your registration number, the admit card, the confirmation page and your identity proof. Telephone as well. Keep the reply or the ticket number.
Step 5: Choose the identity proof that matches best
From the list the admit card allows. If one of yours carries the admit card's spelling, that is the one.
Step 6: Get the linking paper in original
The Gazette notification, the marriage certificate, or a sworn affidavit that both names are one person, as the instructions name.
Step 7: Print everything, and make copies
The admit card, the helpdesk's reply, the identity proof and the linking paper. Carry the originals and a set of photocopies.
Step 8: Reach the centre early
Go to the centre in charge before the queue forms, and explain once, calmly, with the papers in order.
An affidavit can be made in a day before a notary. A marriage certificate, if you do not have one, cannot. A Gazette takes weeks. So check the day the card is issued, while there is still time for the paper you need.
What Should You Carry on the Day?
Every candidate
- The admit card, printed, with the photograph as instructed
- The photo identity proof it names, in original and currently valid
- A photocopy of that identity proof
- Extra photographs, the same as on the application
A candidate with a mismatch
- The linking paper in original: Gazette notification, marriage certificate or affidavit
- The class 10 certificate
- The confirmation page of the application
- The helpdesk's reply or ticket number, printed
- A second identity proof, if you have one
A Gazette notification is published online, and what people carry is a print of the published issue. Print it clearly, on both sides if it runs over, and carry your identity proof in the new name with it.
What Happens at the Gate?
- The staff check the admit card against the identity proof and the photograph, and often take a photograph or a fingerprint.
- Where the name differs, the matter goes to the centre in charge, who decides on the spot under the body's instructions.
- Some centres let a candidate sit after taking a written undertaking, and leave the question to the body. Others turn the candidate away. You cannot know which in advance.
- Stay polite, show the papers in order, and ask for the centre in charge by that title. An argument at the gate helps nobody.
- If you are allowed in on an undertaking, keep a copy of what you signed.
How Does It Differ by Kind of Exam?
| Kind of exam | Who to contact | A point to note |
|---|---|---|
| Bank recruitment | The recruiting body's helpdesk | The call letter asks for an exact match, and names the Gazette, marriage certificate or affidavit for a changed name |
| Central recruitment | The commission's or board's regional office | Read the admit card's instructions. Document verification comes later and checks again |
| State recruitment | The state commission's helpdesk | The residence and category certificates are checked at the next stage |
| National entrance tests | The testing agency's helpdesk | The form may have captured both your Aadhaar name and your certificate name |
| Board examinations | The school | The school corrects its list with the board. A student is not left to deal with the board alone |
| University examinations | The college's examination section | The college identifies its own students, so a spelling slip rarely stops a paper, but it should be corrected before the mark sheet |
The stricter the identity check, the more the paper matters. Recruitment exams with photographs and fingerprints at the gate are the strictest.
What Happens After the Exam?
Getting into the hall settles the day, not the mismatch. The result, the score card and any appointment letter will be printed in the same name as the admit card.
- At document verification, the same difference is checked again, against your certificates.
- Write to the exam body after the exam as well, asking how the name will be dealt with at the next stage.
- Where your name has changed, the Gazette notification or the marriage certificate will be asked for again. Keep the original safe.
- Where it was a spelling slip, bring your identity papers to the class 10 spelling before the next stage.
For the stages that follow selection, see name mismatch in police verification.
How Do You Prevent It?
- Apply in the name on the identity proof you will carry, and make that the name on your class 10 certificate. Bring every identity paper to that one form.
- Fill the form yourself, or read the preview before it is submitted.
- Print the confirmation page and read it the same day.
- Use the correction window, where the body gives one.
- If you are about to marry or change your name, do not change your identity papers in the middle of an exam cycle. Finish the cycle in the name you applied in, or keep the linking paper ready in original.
- If you have changed your name by Gazette, keep several clear prints of the notification, and update Aadhaar and your other identity papers promptly.
How Does the Central Gazette Route Work?
A Gazette cannot be had in the week of an exam. It commonly takes 3 to 7 weeks. This route is for a candidate who has changed a name, or who uses two forms of a name and has a season of exams ahead.
Step 1: Check the date of your next exam and count back
If it is under two months away, plan on an affidavit or a marriage certificate for that exam.
Step 2: Decide what the notice has to say
A change of name, or one name with the other form stated as an alias.
Step 3: Fix the exact name, and list the other form as it appears on your papers
Letter by letter.
Step 4: Make the affidavit
State the old name, the new name, your father's or husband's name and your address. Sign before a notary. Make a spare original, since it serves at the gate in the meantime.
Step 5: Publish the newspaper notice
In a daily local leading newspaper. Keep the original newspaper.
Step 6: Type the form and prepare the CD
Two typed copies of the specimen, signed in your old name with two witnesses, the undertaking, the same text on a CD in MS Word, and a certificate that both copies match.
Step 7: Pay the charge on BharatKosh
Commonly Rs 1,100 for an adult, with Rs 250 more for each alias. It is not refunded.
Step 8: Send the file yourself, then print the Gazette
Send it to the Controller of Publications, Department of Publication, Civil Lines, Delhi 110054. Print several clear copies of the published notification for your exam folder.
Would the Uttarakhand Gazette Do?
Call letters speak of a Gazette notification without saying which. For central and bank recruitment, held across the country, the Gazette of India is the safer choice. A state notice may serve for the state's own recruitment.
Step 1: Read the notification of the exam you are taking
Or ask its helpdesk which Gazette it accepts.
Step 2: Think about every exam you may sit
The Gazette of India serves them all.
Step 3: Contact the Roorkee press
Take the contact from govtpress.uk.gov.in and ask if a private change of name notice is being accepted, and how long it takes.
Step 4: Ask for the papers, the format and the fee, and submit
Keep photocopies of everything.
Step 5: Download the notice
Search gazettes.uk.gov.in and save the PDF.

Which Mistakes Do Candidates Make?
| Mistake | What to do |
|---|---|
| Downloading the admit card the night before | Download it the day it is released |
| Not reading the instructions on the card | They are the rule for that hall |
| Carrying a photocopy of the linking paper | Carry the original |
| Carrying an identity proof in a different name with nothing to link it | Carry the proof that matches, or the linking paper |
| Changing Aadhaar between applying and the exam | Finish the cycle first, or carry the linking paper |
| Hoping to explain it at the gate | Write to the helpdesk days before |
| Borrowing or altering an identity proof | Never. It is impersonation |
| Expecting a Gazette in a week | Use an affidavit for this exam, and a Gazette for the season |
| Forgetting the matter after sitting the exam | It returns at document verification |
A typical case we handle: a candidate in Haldwani applied for a bank recruitment in her maiden name, married before the preliminary exam, and updated her Aadhaar to her married name. Her call letter and her Aadhaar now differed, a week before the exam. She asked us for a Gazette. There was no time, and the call letter named a marriage certificate as enough. She carried the original marriage certificate with her Aadhaar, and her old PAN card in the maiden name, and was admitted. This is an illustrative example of the type of case we handle, not a named client review.
When you do not need us
For a married name, the marriage certificate. For a spelling slip, the helpdesk and an affidavit from a notary. We are useful where you have changed your name, or use two forms of it, and want a Gazette notification to carry through a season of exams and the verifications after them.
Which Areas of Uttarakhand Do We Cover?
All 13 districts: Dehradun, Haridwar, Pauri Garhwal, Tehri Garhwal, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Uttarkashi, Nainital, Udham Singh Nagar, Almora, Bageshwar, Champawat and Pithoragarh. Wherever your centre is, the papers are the same. The Gazette file, where one is needed, is prepared on WhatsApp.

What should I carry if my name changed after marriage?
The original marriage certificate, with your identity proof.
Is an affidavit enough for an admit card name mismatch?

What if my Aadhaar name and 10th certificate name differ when applying for JEE Main?
NTA gave an option during the application: close the name mismatch pop-up, and both the certificate name and the Aadhaar name are captured, so the form can go ahead. Correct Aadhaar afterwards for later stages.
Can SSC verify my identity with Aadhaar?
Yes. The Personnel Ministry allowed the Staff Selection Commission to use Aadhaar authentication, on a voluntary basis, at registration and at various stages of its examinations.
Was Aadhaar face authentication used in SSC CGL 2025?
As reported, the Commission said Aadhaar authentication, including face authentication at the application stage, was used through the exam process to verify identity.
Is face recognition used at NEET exam centres?
UIDAI ran a trial of Aadhaar face authentication at select NEET UG 2025 centres in Delhi with NTA and NIC. Read your own admit card for the checks at your centre.
Should I keep my Aadhaar unlocked for an RRB exam?
Yes. An RRB notice of April 2025 advised candidates to keep Aadhaar unlocked in the UIDAI system before coming to the exam centre.

The wording on an exact match, on a mismatch and on a changed name is from call letters and document instructions for bank recruitment. Other exam bodies have their own instructions, which we did not read one by one. What happens at the gate, and the table by kind of exam, are general guidance. The instructions on your own admit card are the authority.

Admit Card Name Mismatch: The Short Version
An admit card is printed from the application, and exam bodies ask that its name match the photo identity proof exactly. Bank call letters say a candidate will not be allowed to appear on a mismatch, and admit a candidate who has changed a name only on an original Gazette notification, marriage certificate or affidavit.
Download the card the day it is released, write to the helpdesk, and carry the linking paper in original. A Gazette takes weeks, so plan it for the season, not the week. To find out which paper to carry, send photos on WhatsApp 9540005064, and we will reply in working hours.
