Kumaun University Degree Name Correction
For students and former students of the university at Nainital whose marksheets or degree carry a wrong name: what the university's own degree page says, why every marksheet has to agree before a degree is applied for, and where the correction is made.
A Kumaun University degree name correction is made at the university, before the degree is applied for. Its degree page says your name, your father's name as per the high school certificate, and the enrolment number must be the same in all marksheets. If they are not, you have to visit the university for the correction.

Most graduates of the Kumaun hills and the Tarai hold marksheets from this university. Many never took the degree itself, and apply for it years later when a recruitment asks. That is when a Kumaun University degree name correction becomes urgent. This page explains Kumaun University degree name correction for its students and former students.
We do not deal with the university. We prepare the Gazette notification, where a name has in fact been changed. What follows is from the university's own page for the online degree application. We did not find a separate form, fee or time limit for a correction. For the university at Srinagar, read HNB Garhwal University degree name correction.
What Is the University, and Who Are Its Students?
- What it is. A state university, with its seat at Nainital.
- Where it teaches. At its campuses at Nainital and Bhimtal, and through colleges affiliated to it.
- How one is admitted. Through the state's online admission portal for its universities.
- What identifies a student. An enrolment number, with a roll number for each examination.
- How the degree is taken. On an online application, after the final result.
A marksheet is collected from the college after each result. The degree is a separate paper, applied for separately. Between the two lies the check this page is about.
What Does the University's Degree Page Say?
From the university's page for applying online for an original degree certificate.
| Point | What the page says |
|---|---|
| Before applying | Ensure that your name, your father's name as per the high school certificate, and the enrolment number are the same in all the marksheets |
| If they are not | You have to visit the university for the correction |
| The steps | Pay the processing charge, submit the application, and request the original degree certificate |
| Care | Submissions with incorrect or incomplete information are rejected. Verify each entry before submitting |
| Uploads | A scanned copy of your marksheets |
| Reasons for rejection | Among them: marks that do not match the university's records, and an internet copy of a marksheet in place of the original |
The first two rows are the whole of the rule. The university names its standard, the high school certificate. It names what has to agree, across every marksheet. And it says where the cure is.
Where Does the Name Come From?
- The high school certificate fixes the name, the father's name and the date of birth.
- The admission form on the state's portal, or at the college in earlier years, carries them to the college.
- The enrolment is made by the university from the college's list, with a number.
- Each examination form is filled afresh, every year or semester.
- Each marksheet is printed from that session's record.
- The degree is printed from the marksheets and the university's record, on an online application.
A three-year course gave three marksheets. A six-semester course gives six. Each came from a separate examination form, and each is a separate chance of a slip. The university checks them against one another only at the end.
What Kinds of Mismatch Are There?
One marksheet differs from the rest
- A spelling, initials or a missing surname in one year only
- The record is right, and one print is wrong
- Corrected at the university
All the marksheets differ from the high school certificate
- The slip was made at admission and repeated every year
- The marksheets agree with one another, and all are wrong
- Corrected at the university, on the high school certificate
A changed name
- The student married or changed a name after passing
- The marksheets are right for the name at the time
- Not a slip. Linked by the marriage certificate, or by a Gazette for a change by choice
The second kind passes the university's check, since the marksheets agree. It fails later, at a recruitment that holds the degree against the high school certificate. Check for it yourself.
Which Case Is Yours?
| The situation | Route | Gazette? |
|---|---|---|
| One marksheet has a spelling slip | A correction at the university, before the degree application | No |
| The father's name differs between marksheets | The same | No |
| The enrolment number differs between marksheets | The same. Not a name problem, but the same cure | No |
| All marksheets differ from the high school certificate | A correction at the university, on that certificate | No |
| The online degree application was rejected | Read the reason given, and put that right | No |
| Aadhaar differs from the marksheets and the high school certificate | Correct Aadhaar | No |
| A married surname taken after passing | No correction. Keep the marriage certificate with the degree | No |
| The name was changed by choice after passing | Gazette, shown with the degree | Yes |
A Gazette appears once in eight rows. The university corrects its own slips, and says so.
How Do You Put It Right?
These steps follow the university's degree page. We could not confirm its form or fee for the correction itself.
Step 1: Lay out every marksheet of the course, in order
First year or semester to last.
Step 2: Read your name, your father's name and the enrolment number on each
All three should be the same on every one.
Step 3: Put the high school certificate beside them
The university's degree page names it as the standard for the names.
Step 4: Mark the marksheet that differs
And decide whether it is one paper, or the record itself.
Step 5: Ask your college to check its register and give you a letter
A current student can ask it to forward the request.
Step 6: Go to the university for the correction
Its page says a student whose marksheets do not agree has to visit the university.
Step 7: Carry originals, the high school certificate and an identity paper
And ask what else is needed before you travel.
Step 8: Apply for the degree online only after the marksheets agree
An application on mismatched marksheets is rejected.
Why Must Every Marksheet Be Alike?
- The degree says one thing: that a named person, with a named father and an enrolment number, passed a course.
- The university can say that only if each year's or semester's result belongs to the same person.
- So it asks for three things to be identical across the marksheets: the name, the father's name and the enrolment number.
- "Rakesh Singh" in the first year and "Rakesh Singh Mehta" in the third are, on paper, two students.
- "Son of M. S. Bora" and "son of Mohan Singh Bora" are two fathers.
- A back paper or an improvement examination adds a further marksheet. Check that one too.
Do this check on the day each marksheet is collected, not at the end. A slip in the first year is far easier to put right while the second year's form is still to be filled.
What About Visiting the University?
- The university's page says a student whose marksheets do not agree has to visit the university for the correction.
- Before travelling to Nainital, telephone or write to the examination section, and ask what to bring and on which days it sees students.
- Carry every original marksheet of the course, the high school certificate, the intermediate certificate and an identity paper.
- Carry photocopies of all of them, and a written request stating the entry as printed and as it should read.
- A letter from your college, confirming how its register has you, helps.
- Ask for a receipt for anything you hand over, and for a date by which to expect the corrected marksheet.
The university's site also lists a grievance service and helpline numbers under its examination links. Use them where a visit is hard. We could not confirm what they will do for a correction.
What About the Online Degree Application?
- Pay the processing charge, as the page describes.
- Submit the application, entering each detail as on the marksheets.
- Upload scanned copies of the original marksheets. The page says an internet copy is not valid.
- Verify each entry before submitting. The page says incorrect or incomplete submissions are rejected.
- Request the degree, and keep the acknowledgement.
The page lists reasons for which applications have been rejected. Marks that do not match the university's records is one. A marksheet that needs correcting is another, and for that the page again says to come to the university. A rejected application costs its fee and weeks of time, so make the check first.
What About Campuses, Colleges and Older Students?
- Students of the campuses and of affiliated colleges are all on the university's rolls. The correction is the university's in every case.
- A college keeps its admission register and its copy of each examination form. It can show how a slip arose.
- The affiliation of colleges in the region has changed. Almora, long a campus of this university, now has a university of its own.
- Apply to the university whose name is printed on the marksheet. For a year in which that was this one, the record is here.
- Older records were kept by hand. A degree for a course passed decades ago takes longer to trace.
- A private candidate applies in the same way, with the examination centre in place of a college.
Read B.Ed degree name correction for a professional course taken through an affiliated college.
Where Is the Degree Read?
- Recruitment. A commission or a department reads the degree with every earlier certificate, from the high school certificate upward.
- Further study. Another university reads it at admission, with a migration certificate.
- Verification. An employer may ask the university to confirm the degree. The reply comes from the university's record.
- Promotion. An employee who studied while in service has the degree read against the service record.
- The provisional certificate. Issued before the degree, it carries the same name and is read in the same way.

How Does the Central Gazette Route Work?
Use this where your name has in fact been changed by choice, so that the degree is right for a name you no longer use. It does nothing for a slip, which the university corrects.
Step 1: Confirm that your name has in fact changed
A slip against the high school certificate is corrected by the university.
Step 2: Ask the university how it treats a changed name
A correction puts right a slip. A name changed after the degree is usually shown by a Gazette kept beside it.
Step 3: Fix the exact new name, and copy the old name from the high school certificate
Letter by letter.
Step 4: Make the affidavit and publish the newspaper notice
Sign before a notary. Publish in a daily local leading newspaper, and keep the original newspaper.
Step 5: Type the form and sign the undertaking
Two typed copies of the specimen, signed in your old name with two witnesses, and the undertaking.
Step 6: Prepare the CD, photographs and certificate
The same text on a CD in MS Word, two self-attested photographs with identity proof, and a certificate that both copies match.
Step 7: Pay the charge on BharatKosh
Commonly Rs 1,100 for an adult. It is not refunded.
Step 8: Send the file yourself, then carry the Gazette with your degree
Send it to the Controller of Publications, Department of Publication, Civil Lines, Delhi 110054. Update Aadhaar, and show the Gazette wherever the degree is read.
Would the Uttarakhand Gazette Do?
A state university and a state employer may accept it. A graduate who may work or study elsewhere is better served by the Gazette of India.
Step 1: Ask whoever will read the degree
A state university and a state employer may accept either.
Step 2: Think about Aadhaar, PAN and a post in another state
The Gazette of India serves them all.
Step 3: Contact the Roorkee press
Take the contact from govtpress.uk.gov.in and ask if a private change of name notice is being accepted.
Step 4: Ask for the papers, the format and the fee, and submit
Keep photocopies of everything.
Step 5: Download the notice
Search gazettes.uk.gov.in and save the PDF.
To weigh the two, read Uttarakhand Gazette vs Gazette of India.
Which Mistakes Do Students Make?
| Mistake | What to do |
|---|---|
| Never laying the marksheets side by side | Do it before the degree application |
| Checking the marksheets against one another only | Check them against the high school certificate too |
| Applying online and hoping a small difference passes | Correct it first |
| Uploading a marksheet printed from the internet | Upload a scan of the original |
| Travelling to Nainital without asking what to bring | Telephone or write first |
| Leaving the degree until a recruitment asks for it | Take it soon after the final result |
| Reading only your own name | Read the father's name and the enrolment number |
| Getting a Gazette for a spelling slip | The university corrects its slip |
| Writing on a marksheet by hand | Never. Ask for a corrected one |
A typical case we handle: a woman from Pithoragarh passed her graduation in 2014 from an affiliated college and never applied for the degree. In 2026 a teaching post asked for it. Her first and second year marksheets read "Hema Bisht, daughter of Diwan Singh". Her third year marksheet read "daughter of D. S. Bisht". Her online application was rejected, and her husband asked us about a Gazette. No name had changed, so it was the wrong paper. She went to the university with all three marksheets and her high school certificate, and applied for the degree again after the third year marksheet was corrected. This is an illustrative example of the type of case we handle, not a named client review.

That the name, the father's name as per the high school certificate and the enrolment number must be the same in all marksheets, that a student otherwise has to visit the university for the correction, the steps of the online degree application and the reasons for rejection are from the university's own page for applying online for an original degree certificate. That it has campuses at Nainital and Bhimtal and admits through the state's portal is from guides. We found no separate form, fee or time limit for a correction. What to carry on a visit is general guidance. The university's examination section is the authority.
