Corbett Safari Permit Name Mismatch in Uttarakhand
For visitors whose safari permit for Corbett Tiger Reserve carries a name or an identity number that differs from the paper they will show at the gate: why the names are checked, what the reserve's terms say about changes, how to book so that it does not happen, and what to do when a companion drops out.
A Corbett safari permit name mismatch is prevented, not cured. Type each visitor's name and identity number from a photograph of the identity paper that person will carry, and read the list before paying. The reserve's terms do not allow a reservation to be changed. For a slip, call the reception at once. No Gazette is needed.

Seats on a safari in Corbett are few and are booked weeks ahead. A permit lists each visitor by name, age and identity number, and the gate lets in the people on the list. A Corbett safari permit name mismatch is a visitor whose card does not match the list, with the jeep waiting. This page explains Corbett safari permit name mismatch, and how to avoid it.
We do not book safaris, and this subject needs no Gazette. That reservations are not transferable or open to change, and that entry is limited to those named, are from the reserve's terms and conditions as published by those who sell its tours. We did not read them on the reserve's own portal. For a hotel booking, read hotel booking name mismatch.
What Is the Permit, in Brief?
- What it is. Permission from the forest department to enter a zone of the reserve on a given day and shift.
- Who issues it. The reserve, through the forest department's own online portal.
- What it lists. Each visitor, with name, age, gender and the number of an identity paper.
- How many. A fixed, small number of vehicles and visitors for each zone and shift.
- What it is not. A ticket that anyone holding it can use.
Because entry is rationed, a permit is tied to named people. That is the whole reason a name matters here more than on a cinema ticket.
What Do the Terms Say?
From the reserve's terms and conditions as published by sellers of its tours, and from booking guides. Read the present terms on the forest department's portal before you book.
| Point | What is published |
|---|---|
| Transfer | Reservations are non-transferable and cannot be resold, transferred, changed or modified for use by anyone other than those in whose name they were made |
| Entry | Limited to those in whose name and identity the original reservations were made |
| Refund | Non-refundable, except where specifically provided |
| At booking | Guides say each visitor's details are entered exactly as on a Government identity paper |
| At the gate | Guides say entry is allowed after the booking and the original identity paper used for it are verified |
Read together, these say one thing. The list is fixed when you pay. Whoever is on it, as typed, is who can go in.
What Does the Gate Read?
| On the permit | Read against | Where a slip comes from |
|---|---|---|
| The visitor's name | The identity paper in hand | Typed from memory, or as a nickname |
| The identity number | The same paper | A digit mistyped, or another paper's number |
| The kind of paper | The paper shown | Booked on one, another brought |
| Age and gender | The paper, and the person | Guessed for a relative |
| The number of visitors | The people in the vehicle | Someone added or swapped |
The identity number is the firmer of the first two. A name with a letter wrong and a number that matches is plainly the same person. A name that is right and a number that belongs to someone else is not.
What Kinds of Mismatch Are There?
A slip in typing
- A letter, a short name, a missing surname, a digit
- The right person, entered loosely
- Ask the reception. Carry the paper that was meant
A different identity paper
- Booked on Aadhaar, came with a licence
- Or the paper booked on has been lost or renewed
- Bring the one on the permit
A different person
- A friend could not come, and another took the seat
- Or a group was booked with names to be "filled in later"
- Not a mismatch to be explained. The terms do not allow it
The third is the one people talk themselves into. It is not a clerical matter. A person entering a tiger reserve on another's identity is doing something the reserve's terms forbid.
Which Case Is Yours?
| The situation | What to do | Gazette? |
|---|---|---|
| A letter of the name is wrong | Call the reception. Carry the paper whose number is on the permit | No |
| A short name on the permit, a full one on the paper | The same | No |
| A digit of the identity number is wrong | Call the reception at once | No |
| A different identity paper was brought | Fetch the one on the permit if you can | No |
| A married name on the permit, a maiden name on the paper | Call the reception. Carry the marriage certificate | No |
| A companion cannot come | Ask the reception. Do not send a substitute | No |
| An agent typed the names wrongly | Ask the agent to take it up with the reception | No |
| Your own identity papers carry two names | Correct them, after the trip | Only for the papers |
No safari needs a Gazette. Nearly every row ends at the reserve's reception, which alone can say what it will accept.
How Do You Book So That It Does Not Happen?
This is the general method. It takes a little longer than booking in a hurry.
Step 1: Before booking, collect a photograph of each visitor's identity paper
The same paper each will carry to the gate.
Step 2: Type each name, age and identity number from the photograph
Not from memory, and not from a message.
Step 3: Choose the kind of identity paper each person will in fact bring
A permit made on a passport is not opened by an Aadhaar card.
Step 4: Read the whole list before paying
Reservations are not open to change afterwards, by the reserve's terms.
Step 5: Download the permit and read it again
Every name, and every number.
Step 6: If you find a slip, contact the reserve's reception at once
Ask what can be done. Do not assume, and do not wait for the gate.
Step 7: Carry the original identity paper named on the permit, for each visitor
A photocopy or a different paper may not be accepted.
Step 8: Reach the gate early
So that a question can be asked and answered before the vehicles leave.
Why the Same Identity Paper?
- At booking you choose a kind of identity paper for each visitor, and type its number.
- The permit prints that number beside the name.
- At the gate the staff look for that number on the paper you hold out.
- A different paper has a different number. However genuine, it does not match the permit.
- So decide before booking which paper each person will carry, and book on that one.
- Carry the original. A photograph on a phone may be refused.
For most Indian visitors Aadhaar is the simplest, since everyone has it. Where a person's Aadhaar carries a name she no longer uses, book in the Aadhaar name all the same. Read name change in Aadhaar card.
What If an Agent or a Hotel Booked?
- Many visitors book through a resort or a travel agent, who enters the names on the portal.
- The agent types from a message: "Rohit, wife, two kids".
- He fills the gaps as best he can, and a name or a number comes out wrong.
- Send him a photograph of each identity paper, and say that the names and numbers are to be copied from them.
- Ask for the permit itself, not a confirmation message, some days before the safari. Read it.
- Pay an agent's fee if you choose to, but know what the permit costs on the portal.
Read tourism registration name mismatch, on the operators and guides who are registered with the state.
What If Someone Drops Out?
- A cousin falls ill the night before, and a neighbour's son would love to come.
- The published terms say a reservation is not transferable, and cannot be changed for use by another.
- The seat therefore goes empty, unless the reception tells you otherwise.
- Ask the reception by phone before the day, and go by what it says.
- Do not put the neighbour's son in the jeep under the cousin's name. He is a person in a protected forest whom the record does not show.
- If something went wrong inside, the record would be the first thing read.
The same reasoning runs through the yatra and trekking permits. Read Char Dham Yatra registration name mismatch.
What About Children, Elders and Foreign Visitors?
- A child is entered as the booking form asks. Carry whatever paper it accepted, or the birth certificate.
- An elder's identity paper may carry a single name or an old spelling. Book in exactly that, not in the name the family uses.
- A wife's paper may be in her maiden name. Book in the paper's name.
- A foreign visitor is booked on the passport, with the name as its first page prints it, and carries it.
- Foreign visitors are charged differently at many reserves. Entering one as an Indian to save money is not a slip. It is a false declaration.
- Where one member's paper is in doubt, settle it before paying for the whole group.
Read long name cut short on cards and forms and flight ticket name mismatch.
Which Is the Real Portal?
- Permits are issued by the forest department, through its own portal for the reserve.
- A search brings up many sites with "Corbett" in their names that look official and are not.
- Some are honest agents who book on the portal for a fee. Some take money and send nothing.
- The department's portal has an address ending in the state Government's domain.
- A permit from the portal shows each visitor and identity number. A "confirmation" without those is not a permit.
- If you pay an agent, ask for the permit as proof before the day.
We name no agent and recommend none. Read name change online in Uttarakhand, on telling a real service from a copy.
Where Does a Gazette Come In?
Nowhere in a safari. It comes in only where a person has changed a name by choice and wants identity papers to carry it. After that, permits are booked in the new name.
Step 1: Confirm that your own name has in fact changed
A slip typed in a booking is not a change of name.
Step 2: Do not think of a Gazette for a safari
It takes weeks. A permit is for one morning.
Step 3: Fix the exact new name
The spelling that will go on Aadhaar and the passport.
Step 4: Make the affidavit and publish the newspaper notice
Sign before a notary. Publish in a daily local leading newspaper, and keep the original newspaper.
Step 5: Type the form and sign the undertaking
Two typed copies of the specimen, signed in your old name with two witnesses, and the undertaking.
Step 6: Prepare the CD, photographs and certificate
The same text on a CD in MS Word, two self-attested photographs with identity proof, and a certificate that both copies match.
Step 7: Pay the charge on BharatKosh
Commonly Rs 1,100 for an adult. It is not refunded.
Step 8: Send the file yourself, then update your identity papers
Send it to the Controller of Publications, Department of Publication, Civil Lines, Delhi 110054. Book later trips in the name the papers then carry.
Which Gazette Should You Use?
For identity papers, the Gazette of India. A permit needs neither.
Step 1: Remember what a gate reads
The identity paper named on the permit.
Step 2: Remember who issues that paper
A central body, for most people.
Step 3: Prefer the Gazette of India
For your identity papers, not for any permit.
Step 4: Contact the Roorkee press only if a state notice suits another purpose
Take the contact from govtpress.uk.gov.in and ask if a private change of name notice is being accepted.
Step 5: Download the notice
Search egazette.gov.in and save the PDF.

Which Mistakes Do Visitors Make?
| Mistake | What to do |
|---|---|
| Typing a relative's name from memory | From a photograph of the identity paper |
| Booking with placeholder names | The real visitors, or do not book |
| Bringing a different identity paper | The one on the permit |
| Carrying only a photograph of the card | The original |
| Sending a substitute for someone who dropped out | Ask the reception. Otherwise the seat stays empty |
| Never seeing the permit an agent booked | Ask for it days before |
| Finding the slip at the gate | Read the permit the day it is issued |
| Booking on a look-alike site | The forest department's own portal |
| Arguing at the gate | The staff apply the terms. Call the reception beforehand |
A typical case we handle: a family from the plains booked a morning safari through their resort. The permit listed the grandmother as "Mrs Sharma", with an identity number that was her son's. At the gate she could not be matched, and stayed behind while the others went in. Her son wrote to us afterwards, asking if her name needed "correcting somewhere". It did not. Her papers were in order. The slip was in a booking typed from a message. For their next visit he sent the resort photographs of each card, and read the permit himself. This is an illustrative example of the type of case we handle, not a named client review.
When you do not need us

That visitors' details are entered as on an identity paper, and that the original paper used at booking is checked at the gate, are from booking guides. We did not read the terms on the forest department's own portal, and they may have changed. What staff do about a plain slip, and the rules for children, are not known to us.
