Nanda Gaura Yojana Name Mismatch in Uttarakhand
For families applying for the state's grant for daughters, at birth and after class 12: the papers the application asks for, the names that have to agree across them, and what to correct in the months before the window opens.
A Nanda Gaura Yojana name mismatch is cured by bringing the girl's papers to the name on her class 10 certificate, and her mother's to the name on the mother's Aadhaar. Each paper is corrected at its own office. The application has a fixed window, so do it beforehand. A spelling needs no Gazette.

The state's grant for daughters is paid once at birth and again when a girl passes class 12, and the second application asks for close to a dozen papers. A Nanda Gaura Yojana name mismatch among them is a common reason a family loses a year, or the grant. This page explains Nanda Gaura Yojana name mismatch for families in Uttarakhand.
We do not file scheme applications, and this subject almost never needs a Gazette. The documents and conditions are as guides to the scheme list them. We did not read the department's current order, and the lists vary a little between guides. For other schemes, read name change in government scheme records.
What Is the Scheme, and What Are Its Two Stages?
As guides describe it. Check the scheme's portal for the current conditions.
| Point | Birth stage | Class 12 stage |
|---|---|---|
| When | After a daughter's birth. Guides say within six months | After she passes class 12, in a window that year |
| Who applies | The mother or guardian | The girl |
| Paid into | The mother's bank account | The girl's own bank account |
| Conditions guides list | A birth in a hospital or health centre, a family within the income limit, up to two daughters | Class 12 passed from a recognised board, unmarried, the same income limit |
| Run by | The state's department for women's empowerment and child development, on its scheme portal | |
Seventeen or eighteen years lie between the two stages. The names a family gave at the first are not always the names it holds at the second.
Which Papers Does Each Stage Ask For?
These are compiled from several guides. They agree on most items and differ on a few. The portal's own list governs.
Birth stage
- Birth registration certificate
- Certificate of delivery in a hospital or health centre
- Permanent residence certificate
- Income certificate
- Aadhaar of the mother and father, or guardian
- The mother's bank passbook
- A certificate from the Anganwadi worker
- Family register extract or the councillor's certificate, in some lists
Class 12 stage
- Class 12 marksheet and certificate, and the high school certificate
- Birth certificate
- Aadhaar of the girl and of her parents
- The girl's own bank passbook
- Permanent residence certificate and income certificate
- Family register extract or the councillor's certificate
- Ration card, with the girl's name on it
- A certificate or affidavit that she is unmarried
- The principal's certificate, and proof of admission to further study in some lists
One guide counts seven documents for the first stage and eleven for the second. Every one of them carries a name.
Whose Names Have to Agree?
| Person | Appears on | Measure to hold the rest to |
|---|---|---|
| The girl | Birth certificate, class 10 and 12 certificates, Aadhaar, passbook, ration card, family register, residence and income certificates | Her class 10 certificate |
| The mother | The girl's birth certificate and marksheets, her own Aadhaar and passbook, the ration card, the family register | The mother's Aadhaar |
| The father | The girl's birth certificate and marksheets, his Aadhaar, the income and residence certificates, the family register | The father's Aadhaar |
- The girl's name is the one most often wrong, because her birth certificate and the family register were written when she was a baby, sometimes under a pet name.
- The mother's name is the next. A woman who is "Devi" on one paper and carries a surname on another appears as two mothers.
- A date of birth that differs between the birth certificate and the class 10 certificate is as serious as a name.
Which Case Is Yours?
| The situation | Route | Gazette? |
|---|---|---|
| The girl's Aadhaar differs from her class 10 certificate | Correct Aadhaar to class 10 | No |
| Her birth certificate carries a pet name or no name | A correction by the Registrar of births | No |
| The ration card or the family register spells her differently, or leaves her out | A correction or an addition at that office | No |
| Her bank account is in a different spelling | The bank corrects it on Aadhaar | No |
| The mother's name differs between her Aadhaar and the girl's papers | Correct whichever is wrong, at its office | No |
| The residence or income certificate has a wrong name | A fresh certificate from the tehsil | No |
| The girl has in fact changed her name since class 10 | The Gazette notification links the certificates to the new name | Yes |
Six rows of seven are an afternoon each at a local office. None of them is a change of name.
How Do You Put the Papers in Order?
Step 1: Start in class 11, not after the class 12 result
Corrections take weeks. The window does not wait.
Step 2: Lay every paper on a table
Write the girl's, the mother's and the father's name from each, with the girl's date of birth.
Step 3: Take the class 10 certificate as the girl's measure
And each parent's Aadhaar as theirs.
Step 4: Correct her Aadhaar first
Then open or correct her own bank account on it, and link the two.
Step 5: Correct the birth certificate, the ration card and the family register
Each at its own office. See that she is listed on the ration card.
Step 6: Apply for fresh residence and income certificates
In the names exactly as on Aadhaar. Read them the day they come.
Step 7: Get the school's and the other certificates the list asks for
In the same spelling.
Step 8: Apply on the portal early in the window
Type each name from the papers, and keep the application number.
What Goes Wrong at the Birth Stage?
- The baby has no name yet. A birth can be registered without one. Decide the name, have it entered, and apply with the certificate that carries it.
- The mother's name on the birth certificate came from the hospital's register, which came from whatever she said at admission. It should be the name on her Aadhaar.
- The grant goes to the mother's account. Its name has to match her Aadhaar, and guides say the account has to be active and linked with Aadhaar.
- The six months go quickly. A mother back in the village with a newborn is the last person with time for offices. Somebody else in the family should take this on.
- What is typed now is kept. Guides say the second stage depends on the girl having been registered under the scheme at the first. Give the child's name as it will be at school.
Read name change in birth certificate and hospital records name correction.
What Goes Wrong at the Class 12 Stage?
- Aadhaar made in childhood. A spelling, a missing surname or a wrong date of birth. Correct it to the class 10 certificate.
- The ration card. Guides say the girl's name on it is mandatory. A card made before she was born, or one that lists her by a pet name, has to be updated.
- The family register. Often years out of date. Take a fresh extract and read her line.
- Her own bank account. Many girls have none, or one opened at school in a short form. Open it in the class 10 name.
- The parents' names on her marksheets. They were typed by the school. Where they differ from the parents' Aadhaar, the difference is explained by the parents' papers, or corrected through the school and the board.
- The unmarried certificate or affidavit, and the principal's certificate, should carry her name exactly as on the marksheet.
Read ration card, family register, income certificate and residence certificate.
What About the Bank Account?
- The birth grant goes to the mother's account, and the class 12 grant to the girl's own.
- Guides say the account has to be active and linked with Aadhaar, and that a basic zero-balance scheme account is not accepted. Ask the bank and check the portal.
- The name on the passbook should match Aadhaar, letter for letter.
- Some lists also ask for the passbooks of other family members and a year's statement. Those are for the income check, and each should be in that person's Aadhaar name.
- An account opened when she was a minor, operated by a parent, should be converted to her own name at eighteen.
Why Is Timing Everything?
| Correction | Where | Allow |
|---|---|---|
| Aadhaar name or date of birth | An Aadhaar centre | Some weeks |
| Bank account name, and linking | The branch | Days |
| Ration card entry | The supply office | Some weeks |
| Family register entry | The panchayat and block | Some weeks |
| Birth certificate | The Registrar of births | Weeks, and longer for an old record |
| Fresh residence and income certificates | The tehsil | Days to weeks |
| A Gazette notification | The Department of Publication | Commonly 3 to 7 weeks |
Several of these depend on one another. Aadhaar comes before the bank, and the tehsil's certificates come after Aadhaar. A family that starts after the class 12 result is doing all of it inside one window. A family that starts in class 11 is not.
What If the Application Is Sent Back?
- Read the reason on the portal. It usually names the document.
- Correct that paper at its own office. Not on the form.
- Upload the corrected paper where the portal allows a resubmission in the window.
- Go to the district office of the department, or the child development project office for your block, with the papers and the application number.
- Use the state's Chief Minister's helpline if nothing moves.
We could not confirm if an application is allowed after the window closes. Ask the department's office. Do not upload an altered document. Certificates are checked against the issuing record, and a forged one ends the application.
Where Does a Gazette Come In?
Almost never for this scheme. It comes in where the girl has in fact changed her name since class 10, so that her certificates carry one name and her Aadhaar another. For a girl under eighteen, her parents apply.
Step 1: Confirm that it is a change of name, and not a spelling
A spelling is corrected on the class 10 certificate.
Step 2: Count the weeks to the window
A Gazette commonly takes 3 to 7 weeks.
Step 3: Fix the exact new name, and copy the name as on the certificates
Letter by letter.
Step 4: Make the affidavit and publish the newspaper notice
Sign before a notary. Publish in a daily local leading newspaper, and keep the original newspaper.
Step 5: Type the form and sign the undertaking
Two typed copies of the specimen, signed with two witnesses, and the undertaking.
Step 6: Prepare the CD, photographs and certificate
The same text on a CD in MS Word, two self-attested photographs with identity proof, and a certificate that both copies match.
Step 7: Pay the charge on BharatKosh
Commonly Rs 1,100 for an adult and Rs 1,700 for a minor. It is not refunded.
Step 8: Send the file, then update Aadhaar and the bank
Send it to the Controller of Publications, Department of Publication, Civil Lines, Delhi 110054. Upload the notification with the certificates it links.
For a family within this scheme's income limit, that is a real cost. Be sure it is a change of name and not a spelling. See gazette name change in Uttarakhand.
Does the Uttarakhand Gazette Matter Here?
The scheme is the state's own. But a girl of eighteen will need the same paper for Aadhaar, a college, a bank and later a job. That points to the Gazette of India.
Step 1: Ask the Aadhaar centre which Gazette it accepts
Her other papers follow Aadhaar.
Step 2: Think about college, the bank and recruitment
The Gazette of India serves them all.
Step 3: Contact the Roorkee press
Take the contact from govtpress.uk.gov.in and ask if a private change of name notice is being accepted.
Step 4: Ask for the papers, the format and the fee, and submit
Keep photocopies of everything.
Step 5: Download the notice
Search gazettes.uk.gov.in and save the PDF.
To weigh the two, read Uttarakhand Gazette vs Gazette of India.
Which Mistakes Do Families Make?
| Mistake | What to do |
|---|---|
| Looking at the papers after the class 12 result | Start in class 11 |
| Changing the class 10 certificate to match Aadhaar | Bring Aadhaar to class 10 |
| A ration card that does not list the girl | Have her added, in the class 10 name |
| Giving a parent's account at the class 12 stage | It has to be the girl's own |
| An account not linked with Aadhaar | Ask the branch to link it |
| Using last year's income certificate | Get a current one, in the Aadhaar names |
| Paying for an affidavit or a Gazette to fix a spelling | Correct the paper at its own office |
| Letting a cafe operator type the names from hearing | Sit beside the screen with the papers |
| Uploading an edited document | Never. It ends the application |
A typical case we handle: a girl in a village of Chamoli passed class 12 as "Anjali Rawat". Her Aadhaar, made at seven, read "Anju", the ration card "Anjli", and she had no bank account of her own. Her father was told at a cafe that a Gazette would join the names. It was not needed. She corrected Aadhaar on her class 10 certificate, opened an account on it, had the ration card updated and took fresh certificates from the tehsil. She applied in the last fortnight of the window, which was too close. This is an illustrative example of the type of case we handle, not a named client review.
When you do not need us
For this scheme, almost always. Each paper is corrected at its own office, on the class 10 certificate and Aadhaar. We are useful only where a girl has in fact changed her name since class 10 and a Gazette notification is needed to link her certificates.

The two stages, the conditions and the lists of documents are compiled from several guides to the scheme, which agree on most points and differ on some. We did not read the department's current order or test the portal, and we left out the grant amounts and the dates because they change. Which paper to hold the others to, the time each correction takes and what to do when an application is returned are general guidance. The scheme's portal and the department's district office are the authority.

Start in class 11.
