Pantnagar University Degree Name Correction
For students and graduates of the agriculture and technology university at Pantnagar whose record, transcript or degree carries a wrong name: who keeps the record, where to start, and why it matters for a council registration, a fellowship or a move abroad.
A Pantnagar University degree name correction is asked for from the university itself. Start at your college dean's office, with your identity number and class 10 certificate, and see that the request reaches the registrar's office, which keeps the records. Settle it before the final semester. A slip needs no Gazette.

The university at Pantnagar is the country's first agricultural university, and its graduates work in research institutes, banks, seed and food companies and universities across the world. A Pantnagar University degree name correction is simpler than at most places in one way: there is no affiliated college in between. This page explains Pantnagar University degree name correction for its students and graduates.
We do not deal with the university. We prepare the Gazette notification, where a name has in fact been changed. What is said of the registrar's office is from the university's own page. We did not find a published form, fee or time limit for a correction. For the state's technical university, read Uttarakhand Technical University degree name correction.
What Is the University, and Who Are Its Students?
- What it is. A state university of agriculture and technology, at Pantnagar in Udham Singh Nagar. Its own site says it was established in 1960.
- How it is arranged. In colleges of its own, on one campus, with a hill campus in Tehri Garhwal. Agriculture, technology, veterinary science and others each have a college and a dean.
- How one is admitted. Through the university's own entrance examination, or a central counselling for engineering.
- What identifies a student. An identity number given at admission.
- Who keeps the record. The registrar's office.
Most students live on the campus for four or five years. The office that holds their record is a short walk away. That is an advantage few students in the state have, and few use it in time.
Which Papers Does a Student Collect?
| Paper | Issued by | Takes its name from |
|---|---|---|
| Entrance admit card and rank | The university's admission office | The online application |
| Admission papers and identity number | The college, at reporting | Forms the student fills and signs |
| Identity card, hostel and library records | The campus offices | The admission record |
| Grade reports, each semester | The university | The same record |
| Transcript and provisional certificate | The registrar's office | The same record |
| The degree | The university | The same record |
Everything after the second row is a copy of it. The forms a student fills on the first day on campus set the name for the next five years and for the degree.
Where Does the Name Come From?
- The class 10 certificate fixes the name and the date of birth.
- The entrance application is typed by the candidate.
- The admission forms are filled at reporting. The university's own form opens with the full name of the student, as son or daughter of a named parent.
- The record and the identity number are created from those forms.
- Each semester's registration repeats the record.
- Grade reports, the transcript and the degree are printed from it.
The student writes the name by hand at step three, on a busy day, in a queue. Write it from the class 10 certificate, in full, with both parents' names as they read there.
What Kinds of Mismatch Are There?
A slip in the university's record
- The grade reports differ from the class 10 certificate
- A spelling, a missing surname or a parent's name
- Corrected by the university, on request
An identity paper differs from the record
- The record is right, and Aadhaar, the bank account or the passport is not
- A fellowship or a visa is held up
- Corrected at that paper's own office
A changed name
- The student married or changed a name during or after the course
- The record is right for the name at the time
- Not a slip. Linked by the marriage certificate, or by a Gazette for a change by choice
Research scholars spend many years here, and marry during them. A doctoral thesis submitted in one name by a scholar admitted in another needs sorting out before it is bound.
Which Case Is Yours?
| The situation | Route | Gazette? |
|---|---|---|
| A grade report has a spelling slip | A request through the dean's office to the registrar | No |
| The father's name or the mother's name is wrong | The same | No |
| The degree or transcript was printed with a slip | Write to the registrar, with the paper and your certificates | No |
| The bank account for a fellowship differs | The bank corrects it | No |
| The passport differs from the transcript | Correct the passport, if it is the one that is wrong | No |
| A scholar married during the course | Ask the registrar which name the degree will carry. Keep the marriage certificate | Ask |
| A married surname taken after the degree | No correction. Keep the marriage certificate with the degree | No |
| The name was changed by choice | Gazette, shown with the degree | Yes |
A Gazette is certain in one row. Everywhere else an office corrects its own paper.
How Do You Have It Corrected?
This is the general method. We could not find the university's own form or fee for a correction.
Step 1: Read your first grade report against the class 10 certificate
Your name, your father's name and your mother's name, and the identity number.
Step 2: Read the admission papers you signed at reporting
They are where the university's record began.
Step 3: Go to your college dean's office
Ask it to show how the record has you, and how a correction is asked for.
Step 4: Write a request, with your identity number
Stating the entry as it stands and as it should read, with your class 10 certificate.
Step 5: See that it reaches the registrar's office
The registrar's office is the custodian of the university's records.
Step 6: Ask what else is needed
An affidavit, a fee, or the return of a paper already issued.
Step 7: Bring Aadhaar and your bank account to the same name
Scholarships and fellowships are paid on them.
Step 8: Settle it before the final semester
The provisional certificate, the transcript and the degree are all printed from the record.
What Do the Dean's Office and the Registrar's Do?
- The college dean's office is where a student registers each semester and takes most requests.
- The registrar's office is described on the university's own page as the custodian of university records and official documents, responsible for their accuracy and preservation.
- So a correction is decided at the registrar's office, and usually begins at the dean's.
- There is no outside college between the student and the university, as there is at an affiliating university. One campus holds both desks.
- The university's site lists a telephone number and an email address for the registrar's office.
- A graduate who has left writes to the registrar directly, with the identity number, the college and the years of study.
Put the request in writing even where an officer agrees across the desk. Staff change, and a letter with a receiving stamp does not.
What About the Entrance Application?
- Admission to most courses is through the university's own entrance examination, on an online application.
- A guide says the university gives a correction window for that application. Read the year's information bulletin for what can be changed.
- Engineering seats are filled through a central counselling, and candidates report as that notification directs.
- The admit card and the rank list show the name as typed. Read them.
- At reporting, originals are checked: class 10, class 12, and residence and category certificates. They should agree before that day.
- Ask for the admission form to be filled, or checked, against the class 10 certificate, whatever the allotment letter says.
Read name mismatch in NEET and JEE applications and name change in residence certificate.
What About Council Registration, and Fellowships?
- Veterinary graduates register with the state veterinary council on this degree before they may practise. The register is written from it.
- Fellowships and scholarships are paid by transfer to the student's own account. A name on the account that differs from the university's record can send a payment back.
- National fellowships are awarded on a test taken in the student's name, and joined at the university. The two have to agree.
- Research papers and a thesis carry the scholar's name. Use the name in the university's record, so the degree and the work match.
- Bank and agriculture officer posts recruit many of these graduates. Their notices on names are strict.
Read veterinary council registration name mismatch, name change in scholarship records and IBPS bank exam application name mismatch.
What About Transcripts, and Going Abroad?
- Many graduates go on to universities abroad. Those universities ask for a transcript sent by the university itself.
- The transcript carries the name in the university's record, and is read against the passport.
- A passport made in a shorter or different form of the name is the usual source of trouble.
- Decide early which is right. Where the university's record follows the class 10 certificate, bring the passport to it.
- Ask the registrar's office how transcripts are applied for, and how long they take. Foreign deadlines do not move.
- A graduate who has since married should send the marriage certificate with the application abroad, and say so in it.
Read name change in passport and name change for NRIs from Uttarakhand.
What About Older Graduates?
- The university has been at Pantnagar since 1960. It was first named for the earlier undivided state, and renamed in 1972.
- A degree shows the university's name as it was when the degree was awarded. An older name on it is not an error.
- The state's formation in 2000 did not move the university or its records.
- Older records were kept on paper. A request about a degree of the 1970s or 1980s takes longer, and the identity number matters all the more.
- An older graduate whose present papers have drifted from the degree should usually bring those back, with the degree as the anchor.
Where a pension, a visa for a child abroad or a professional record turns on an old degree, write to the registrar early. Read name change in pension and family pension records.
How Does the Central Gazette Route Work?
Use this where your name has in fact been changed by choice, so that your degree is right for a name you no longer use. It does nothing for a slip, which the university corrects.
Step 1: Confirm that your name has in fact changed
A slip against the class 10 certificate is corrected by the university.
Step 2: Ask the registrar's office how it treats a changed name
A correction puts right a slip. A name changed after the degree is usually shown by a Gazette kept beside it.
Step 3: Fix the exact new name, and copy the old name from the class 10 certificate
Letter by letter.
Step 4: Make the affidavit and publish the newspaper notice
Sign before a notary. Publish in a daily local leading newspaper, and keep the original newspaper.
Step 5: Type the form and sign the undertaking
Two typed copies of the specimen, signed in your old name with two witnesses, and the undertaking.
Step 6: Prepare the CD, photographs and certificate
The same text on a CD in MS Word, two self-attested photographs with identity proof, and a certificate that both copies match.
Step 7: Pay the charge on BharatKosh
Commonly Rs 1,100 for an adult. It is not refunded.
Step 8: Send the file yourself, then carry the Gazette with your degree
Send it to the Controller of Publications, Department of Publication, Civil Lines, Delhi 110054. Update Aadhaar and your passport, and show the Gazette wherever the degree is read.
Which Gazette Should You Use?
These graduates' papers are read far outside the state. That settles it in favour of the Gazette of India.
Step 1: Think about who will read the degree
Central research bodies, banks, companies and universities abroad.
Step 2: Prefer the Gazette of India
It is the one a reader outside the state is likeliest to accept.
Step 3: Contact the Roorkee press only if a state notice suits you
Take the contact from govtpress.uk.gov.in and ask if a private change of name notice is being accepted.
Step 4: Ask for the papers, the format and the fee, and submit
Keep photocopies of everything.
Step 5: Download the notice
Search gazettes.uk.gov.in and save the PDF.

Which Mistakes Do Students Make?
| Mistake | What to do |
|---|---|
| Filling the admission forms from memory on reporting day | Copy the class 10 certificate |
| Not reading the first grade report | Read it against your certificates |
| Living on the campus for years and never asking | The office is a short walk away |
| Leaving it to the final semester | Settle it before the provisional certificate |
| Asking only by word of mouth | Put it in writing, and keep a stamped copy |
| Opening the fellowship account in another form of the name | Match the university's record |
| Taking a passport in a different form of the name | Match it to the transcript |
| Publishing papers in a third form of the name | Use the name on record |
| Getting a Gazette for a spelling slip | The university corrects its slip |
A typical case we handle: a veterinary graduate from the campus applied to register with the state council. Her class 10 certificate read "Kiran Joshi". Her degree read "Kiran Kumari Joshi", as she had written on her admission form. The council asked which was right, and her father asked us for a Gazette. Her name had never changed, so that was the wrong paper. She wrote to the registrar with her identity number and certificates, and gave the council that letter and an affidavit while the university's reply was awaited. This is an illustrative example of the type of case we handle, not a named client review.

That its admission form asks for the full name with a parent's, and for a returning student's identity number, is from that form. The renaming of 1972 and the list of colleges are from general references. That a correction window is given for the entrance application is from one guide.
