IBPS Bank Exam Application Name Mismatch in Uttarakhand
For candidates for bank clerk and officer posts whose application, photo identity and certificates do not carry one name: what the call letter and the bank's joining notice say in so many words, which paper covers which kind of difference, and what to settle before registering.
An IBPS bank exam application name mismatch is settled by which kind it is. A spelling difference is supported by a notarised affidavit. A married name is supported by the original marriage certificate. A name changed for any other reason needs the original Gazette notification. The call letter has to match the photo identity exactly.

Bank recruitment is among the few where the notices spell out, in plain words, what a candidate with two names must bring. An IBPS bank exam application name mismatch can stop a candidate at the examination hall door, and again at the bank on the day of joining. This page explains IBPS bank exam application name mismatch for candidates in Uttarakhand.
We prepare the Gazette notification for a change of name. What is quoted here is from a call letter of this recruitment and from a participating bank's published notice on verification before joining. Each round's own notification is the authority. For the central commissions, read UPSC and SSC application name mismatch.
What Is the Common Process, and Who Appoints?
- What it is. A common recruitment for clerks, officers and specialist officers of public sector banks, and for regional rural banks.
- Who conducts it. A national selection body for banking personnel, on its own online application.
- The stages. A preliminary and a main examination, an interview for officer posts, and a provisional allotment to a bank.
- Who appoints. The bank to which the candidate is allotted, after it verifies the papers.
- The name. Typed once, in the application. It is printed on every call letter and carried to the bank.
The candidate's name is read at least four times: at two or three examination halls, and at the bank. Each reader has the same instruction in front of them.
What Do the Notices Say?
From a call letter of this recruitment, and from a participating bank's published notice on verification before joining for a clerks' round.
| Where | What it says |
|---|---|
| The call letter | The name on the call letter, as given at registration, should exactly match the name on the photo identity proof |
| The call letter | Where there is any mismatch between the two, the candidate will not be allowed to appear for the examination |
| The call letter | Candidates who have changed their name are allowed only if they produce a Gazette notification, their marriage certificate or an affidavit |
| The bank's joining notice | Candidates who have changed their name will be allowed only if they produce the original Gazette notification or the original marriage certificate |
| The bank's joining notice | Any difference, by way of a spelling error, between the name in the online application and the documents is to be supported by a notarised affidavit in original |
Read the fourth and fifth rows together. The bank separates a changed name from a misspelt one, and names a different paper for each. Most confusion comes from mixing the two.
Which Papers Does a Candidate Hold?
| Paper | Read at | Read against |
|---|---|---|
| The photo identity proof | Every examination hall, and the bank | The call letter |
| The class 10 certificate | The bank | The application, for the name and the date of birth |
| The degree and its marksheets | The bank | The application, for eligibility |
| Category certificates | The bank | The application, and the central list |
| The application printout and call letters | The bank | Everything else |
The bank's notice lists these among the papers to bring. The identity proof can be a PAN card, a passport, a driving licence, a voter card or another on the notice's list. Choose one, and see that it reads as your certificates do.
Which Paper Covers Which Kind of Difference?
A spelling difference
- One letter, an initial or a missing middle name between the application and a certificate
- The same person, written two ways
- The bank's notice names a notarised affidavit in original
A name changed by marriage
- A woman candidate's certificates carry one surname, and her identity paper another
- Both are right for their dates
- The notices name the original marriage certificate
A name changed for any other reason
- The given name, or the whole name, was changed by choice after class 10
- The certificates are right for the old name
- The notices name the original Gazette notification
An affidavit does not turn one name into another. It only says that two spellings are one person. A candidate who has in fact changed a name, and brings only an affidavit to the bank, is not within its notice.
Which Case Is Yours?
| The situation | What to do | Gazette? |
|---|---|---|
| The identity paper has a spelling slip | Correct it before registering | No |
| The application was typed with a slip | A notarised affidavit in original, for the bank | No |
| A marksheet differs from class 10 | The university corrects it. An affidavit meanwhile | No |
| A woman's surname changed on marriage | The original marriage certificate | No |
| The call letter and the identity paper differ | Carry an identity paper that matches, or the paper that links them | No |
| A caste certificate differs from the central list or in your name | A fresh certificate in the notified format | No |
| The date of birth differs between class 10 and the identity paper | Correct the identity paper | No |
| The name was changed by choice after class 10 | The original Gazette notification | Yes |
A Gazette is the named paper in one row. Here, unlike in most recruitments, the notices say so themselves.
What Should You Do Before You Register?
Step 1: Lay out class 10, the degree and its marksheets
Write the name, the father's name and the date of birth from each.
Step 2: Put beside them the photo identity you will carry
PAN, a passport, a driving licence, a voter card or another the notice allows.
Step 3: Bring the identity paper to the certificates' name
At its own office, before you register.
Step 4: If your name has in fact changed, get the proof now
A marriage certificate, or a Gazette notification. The notices ask for the original.
Step 5: Get category certificates in the format the notice names
With your name as on the certificates, and the caste name exactly as the central list has it.
Step 6: Type the name yourself, as on the identity paper and certificates
And the father's or husband's name with the same care.
Step 7: Read the printout of the submitted application
Keep it. The bank asks for it at verification.
Step 8: Carry the same identity paper to every stage
And the original of any paper that explains a difference.
What Happens at the Examination Hall?
- The candidate brings the call letter, a photocopy of the identity proof stapled to it, and the same identity proof in original.
- The name on the call letter is the name typed at registration. It is compared with the identity proof.
- The call letter says an exact match is required, and that a candidate with a mismatch will not be allowed to appear.
- A candidate who has changed a name is allowed on a Gazette notification, a marriage certificate or an affidavit.
- An invigilator decides on the spot. Carry the original of whatever paper you rely on, not a photograph on a phone.
- The call letter for each stage is kept and brought to the next one. Do not change identity papers between stages.
What Is Verified Before Joining?
From the participating bank's notice. Other banks publish their own, on the same lines.
- The application. The printout of the online application, with the fee receipt.
- Date of birth. A birth certificate, or the class 10 certificate showing it.
- Education. Year-wise or semester-wise marksheets and certificates, with the degree.
- Category. A certificate from the competent authority in the format the notification gives.
- Identity. A photo identity proof from the notice's list.
- A changed name. The original Gazette notification or the original marriage certificate.
- A spelling difference. A notarised affidavit in original.
An appointment is offered subject to this verification. A candidate who has cleared three stages can still be turned away at this desk for want of one original. Read name mismatch at document verification.
What About Category Certificates?
- The bank's notice says the caste name on the certificate should match, letter by letter, the caste name in the central list for the state.
- That is a second name to get right, beside the candidate's own. A local spelling of a community's name can differ from the list.
- The certificate has to be in the format the notification prescribes. A state format is often not accepted for a central recruitment.
- A certificate for the non-creamy layer, or for the economically weaker sections, is tied to a year and a date.
- The candidate's name and the father's name on it should read as on the class 10 certificate.
- Take these before applying, since the category is claimed in the application.
Read name change in caste certificate, name change in OBC certificate and name change in EWS certificate.
What If the Name Changed by Marriage?
- The call letter warns women candidates who have changed a first, middle or last name after marriage to take special note of the matching rule.
- A woman whose certificates carry her earlier name and whose identity paper carries her married name is covered by her marriage certificate.
- The bank's notice asks for it in original.
- She should decide which name to apply in, and carry an identity paper in exactly that name to the hall.
- A candidate who marries between the application and the examination should not update the identity paper she named until the process is over.
- A marriage that was never registered can still be registered. Do it before the notification, not after the result.
Read name change after marriage and name correction in marriage registration certificate.
What Follows Joining?
- The bank opens a service record in the name on the verified papers.
- A salary account, the provident fund and the pension scheme are opened in the same name.
- A character check is made in it, at the address given.
- A bank is itself the strictest reader of names. An employee whose own account does not match PAN is asked to put it right.
- A change of name later in service follows the bank's staff rules, and usually asks for the same papers again.
Read name change in EPFO and UAN records and name mismatch in police verification and character certificate.
How Does the Central Gazette Route Work?
Use this where your name has in fact been changed, other than by marriage. The notices name a Gazette notification as the paper for that case, and the bank asks for the original.
Step 1: Confirm that your name has in fact changed
A spelling difference is supported by an affidavit, and a married name by the marriage certificate.
Step 2: Start early
A Gazette commonly takes 3 to 7 weeks. The original is asked for at verification.
Step 3: Fix the exact new name, and copy the old name from the class 10 certificate
Letter by letter.
Step 4: Make the affidavit and publish the newspaper notice
Sign before a notary. Publish in a daily local leading newspaper, and keep the original newspaper.
Step 5: Type the form and sign the undertaking
Two typed copies of the specimen, signed in your old name with two witnesses, and the undertaking.
Step 6: Prepare the CD, photographs and certificate
The same text on a CD in MS Word, two self-attested photographs with identity proof, and a certificate that both copies match.
Step 7: Pay the charge on BharatKosh
Commonly Rs 1,100 for an adult. It is not refunded.
Step 8: Send the file yourself, then update the identity paper you will carry
Send it to the Controller of Publications, Department of Publication, Civil Lines, Delhi 110054. Keep the original Gazette for the examination hall and the bank.
See gazette name change in Uttarakhand and name change affidavit.
Which Gazette Should You Use?
The notices say "Gazette notification" and no more. Both the Gazette of India and a state Gazette are official. For a national recruitment, the central one is the safer choice.
Step 1: Read the notice's own words
It asks for a Gazette notification. It does not say which.
Step 2: Think about who reads it
A selection body in another state, and a bank that may post you anywhere.
Step 3: Prefer the Gazette of India
It is the one every central office recognises.
Step 4: Contact the Roorkee press only if a state notice suits you
Take the contact from govtpress.uk.gov.in and ask if a private change of name notice is being accepted.
Step 5: Download the notice, and keep the original
Search gazettes.uk.gov.in and save the PDF.

Which Mistakes Do Candidates Make?
| Mistake | What to do |
|---|---|
| Typing the name from memory | Copy it from the identity paper and certificates |
| Carrying a different identity paper from the one that matches | Carry the one that reads as the call letter does |
| Bringing an affidavit for a name that was in fact changed | The notices name a Gazette or a marriage certificate |
| Getting a Gazette for a one-letter difference | The bank's notice names an affidavit for that |
| Carrying photocopies only | The bank asks for originals |
| Updating the identity paper midway | Leave it until the process ends |
| A caste certificate in a state format or a local spelling | The notified format, matching the central list |
| Starting a Gazette after the allotment | Start it before the notification |
| Keeping no printout of the application | Print it. The bank asks for it |
A typical case we handle: a graduate from Haldwani had been known as "Pappu Singh" through school, and his class 10 certificate and degree read so. At twenty he began using "Prateek Singh Rawat", and his Aadhaar and PAN were made in that name on an affidavit. He cleared a clerk's examination and was allotted to a bank, which asked for the original Gazette notification. An affidavit was not enough, since his name had in fact been changed. We prepared his Gazette file, and he joined after the notification was published. This is an illustrative example of the type of case we handle, not a named client review.

That the call letter's name must exactly match the photo identity, that a mismatch bars entry, and what a candidate with a changed name must produce at the hall are from a call letter of this recruitment, read in a published copy. What the bank asks for before joining, including the original Gazette notification or marriage certificate, a notarised affidavit for a spelling error and the rule on the caste name, is from a participating bank's notice for a clerks' round, on that bank's own site.
