SPARSH Name Mismatch in Uttarakhand: Defence Pension and PPO Correction
For ex-servicemen and their families in Uttarakhand whose name, or a wife's or child's name, in the defence pension system does not match Aadhaar: what to check in the pension payment order, how a correction is asked for, who approves it, and why it should be done while the pensioner is alive.
A SPARSH name mismatch is corrected by a request raised from the pensioner's login on the defence pension portal, with proof. The record office vets it, and the correction comes as a corrigendum pension payment order. A spelling or a wife's incomplete name needs identity papers, not a Gazette.

Many families in Uttarakhand draw a defence pension. It now runs on a central system, and each pensioner has a pension payment order in it, naming him, his wife and his children. A SPARSH name mismatch is one of those names differing from Aadhaar, and it is best found while the pensioner is alive. This page explains SPARSH name mismatch, and how a corrigendum is asked for.
We do not correct pension records. How a request is raised and who approves it are from the Army's guide to the system. The ministry's uniform procedure is from a veterans' report of it. For civil pensions, read pension and family pension records.
What Are the System and the Order, in Brief?
- The system. The Ministry of Defence's own system for sanctioning and paying defence pensions.
- Who runs it. The defence accounts office for pensions, at Prayagraj.
- The order. The pension payment order: the paper that sets out who the pensioner is, what is paid, and to whom after him.
- A corrigendum. A further order that corrects or adds to the first.
- Who holds the service record. The record office of the regiment or corps, or the officers' record office.
The order is the root of everything a veteran's family receives: the pension, the family pension, the health scheme and the canteen card. A name wrong in it is wrong in all four.
What Does the Guide Say?
The first four rows are from the Army's guide to the pension system, as reproduced by others. The last two are from a veterans' report of the ministry's uniform procedure for corrections. Check both with your record office.
| Point | What is said |
|---|---|
| On the portal | A pensioner can log in, and view and update the profile |
| Family members | A pensioner can raise a request to amend the name or date of birth of family members, uploading supporting documents |
| Who vets it | The record office for junior commissioned officers and other ranks. The officers' record office for officers |
| How it shows | After final approval by the defence accounts office, through a corrigendum order, which can be downloaded from the portal |
| Kinds of name correction | As reported: addition of a name, deletion of a name, a spelling correction, and a complete change of name |
| Proof of a dependent's date of birth | As reported: PAN, Aadhaar, a passport, a matriculation certificate, the health scheme card, a driving licence or a voter card. For a child, a birth or school certificate |
A published summary of the system adds that pensioners moved onto it from the old arrangement can have fields with no financial effect corrected, through a profile request or by the record office.
Which Names Does a Pension Order Carry?
| Entry | Comes from | What depends on it |
|---|---|---|
| The pensioner's name | The enrolment or commission record | The pension, and the yearly life certificate |
| The pensioner's date of birth | The same | Additional pension at higher ages |
| The wife's name | What was recorded in service, sometimes decades ago | The family pension |
| The wife's date of birth | The same, and often missing | Her additional pension in old age |
| Children | Entries made in service | A child's claim, where one arises |
The wife's two rows are the ones to look at first. A wife was sometimes entered by a first name alone. Her Aadhaar, made much later, may say something fuller.
What Kinds of Mismatch Are There?
A wife's name incomplete, or her date of birth missing
- "Kamla" in the order, "Kamla Devi Rawat" on Aadhaar
- No date of birth for her, or only a year
- Added on her identity papers, by a corrigendum
A spelling
- The pensioner's or a family member's name, one letter out
- Between the service record and Aadhaar
- Whichever paper is wrong is corrected
A name that has changed
- A wife known by another name since, or a remarriage after retirement
- A child who changed a name as an adult
- A complete change, with the proof the record office asks for
The first is the most useful to settle early. A living pensioner can ask for it himself. His widow would have to prove it.
Which Case Is Yours?
| The situation | Route | Gazette? |
|---|---|---|
| The wife's name is incomplete in the order | A request for a corrigendum, on her identity papers | No |
| Her date of birth is missing or wrong | The same, with a listed proof | No |
| The pensioner's name has a spelling slip against Aadhaar | Decide which is wrong. Often Aadhaar | No |
| A wife married after retirement is not in the order | Ask the record office for her to be added | No |
| The pensioner has died, and the widow's name differs | The record office, with the family pension claim | No |
| The life certificate is being rejected | The life certificate, and the order | No |
| The health scheme card differs from the order | Correct the card, after the order | No |
| A complete change of a name | Ask the record office what it requires | Ask. Often yes |
A Gazette may come in once in eight rows. Identity papers and a request settle the rest.
How Is It Put Right?
This is the general method. The second step is one most pensioners have never taken.
Step 1: Log in to the pension portal, and download your pension payment order
And any corrigendum issued since.
Step 2: Read it slowly: your name, your date of birth, your wife's full name and date of birth, your children
Old orders often have a wife's name in part, or no date of birth for her.
Step 3: Put each person's Aadhaar and PAN beside it
Note every difference, letter by letter.
Step 4: Decide which paper is wrong
Sometimes Aadhaar is the one made carelessly, not the service record.
Step 5: Correct Aadhaar first, where Aadhaar is the odd one
Then nothing in the pension record has to move.
Step 6: Raise a profile request on the portal, with the proof
For a family member's name or date of birth, the request goes to your record office for vetting.
Step 7: If you cannot use the portal, go to the Zila Sainik Kalyan office or write to the record office
With the order, your discharge book and the proofs.
Step 8: When the corrigendum order comes, download it and read it again
Then give a copy to the health scheme, the canteen and the bank.
Why Check a Wife's Name and Date of Birth?
- When a pensioner dies, his widow's family pension is started from the entry for her in his order.
- If the order says "Kamla" and her Aadhaar and bank account say "Kamla Devi Rawat", someone has to be satisfied that they are one woman.
- She then has to prove it herself, at a hard time.
- Her date of birth decides when her pension rises in old age. If it is missing, that too has to be proved later.
- A living pensioner can have both entered by one request, on her identity papers.
- Veterans' guides urge every pensioner to read the order for exactly this.
Read pension and family pension records and Kumari, Devi and the husband’s surname.
How Is the Request Made, and Who Approves It?
- The pensioner logs in to the pension portal, and opens the profile.
- The system's user guide describes updating the detail, uploading a document where needed, and submitting a profile service request.
- The Army's guide says a request about a family member's name or date of birth is seen by the record office, for vetting and approval.
- After that, the defence accounts office gives final approval, and a corrigendum order is issued.
- The request can be tracked on the portal. Note its number.
- Some details, such as contact and bank details, are reported as open to the pensioner to update directly.
We did not read the present user guide or the ministry's order. Screens change. Ask the help desk of your record office where a request does not go through.
Which Paper Should Be Changed?
- A soldier's own name and date of birth were recorded at enrolment, from his papers.
- His Aadhaar was made decades later, sometimes at a camp, from what he said.
- Where the two differ, the service record is usually the careful one.
- So correct Aadhaar to the service record, not the other way.
- For a wife it is often the reverse. The service entry was loose, and her Aadhaar is fuller.
- Then the order is brought to her identity papers.
Read name change in Aadhaar card and the Aadhaar date of birth update limit, before spending a date of birth update.
Where Is Help Without a Computer?
- Every district has a Zila Sainik Kalyan office, for ex-servicemen and their families.
- Veterans' guides say a request for a corrigendum can be taken up through it.
- The record office of the regiment or corps can be written to directly, with the order, the discharge book and the proofs.
- The Army's guide speaks of help lines at record offices for this system.
- A son or daughter can help with the portal. The login and the one-time password belong to the pensioner.
- Do not hand the login to an agent. A pension account is not a thing to share.
What Follows the Corrigendum?
- Download the corrigendum order from the portal, and read it as carefully as the first.
- Print it, and keep it with the discharge book.
- Give a copy to the health scheme, so that the wife's card follows.
- The canteen card, and the bank account the pension is paid into, should carry the same names.
- Tell the family where the order is kept. A widow who cannot find it begins with nothing.
- Give the yearly life certificate in the name the system now holds.
Read ECHS card name correction, CSD canteen card name mismatch and life certificate name mismatch.
Where Does a Gazette Come In?
Only where a name has been changed completely, and the record office asks for proof of the change. A spelling, or a wife's fuller name, needs identity papers alone.
Step 1: Confirm that it is a change of name, and not a spelling or a missing word
A spelling or a wife's incomplete name is corrected on identity papers.
Step 2: Ask the record office what it wants for a complete change
Before publishing anything. Its requirement decides the paper.
Step 3: Fix the exact new name
The spelling that will go on Aadhaar and the pension order.
Step 4: Make the affidavit and publish the newspaper notice
Sign before a notary. Publish in a daily local leading newspaper, and keep the original newspaper.
Step 5: Type the form and sign the undertaking
Two typed copies of the specimen, signed in your old name with two witnesses, and the undertaking.
Step 6: Prepare the CD, photographs and certificate
The same text on a CD in MS Word, two self-attested photographs with identity proof, and a certificate that both copies match.
Step 7: Pay the charge on BharatKosh
Commonly Rs 1,100 for an adult. It is not refunded.
Step 8: Send the file yourself, then update Aadhaar, and then ask for the corrigendum
Send it to the Controller of Publications, Department of Publication, Civil Lines, Delhi 110054.
Which Gazette Should You Use?
A defence pension is a central record. For a change of name, the Gazette of India.
Step 1: Remember whose record a defence pension is
The Ministry of Defence's, a central body.
Step 2: Remember the papers it is compared with
Aadhaar and PAN, which are central too.
Step 3: Use the Gazette of India
For a change of name.
Step 4: Contact the Roorkee press only if a state notice suits another purpose
Take the contact from govtpress.uk.gov.in and ask if a private change of name notice is being accepted.
Step 5: Download the notice
Search egazette.gov.in and save the PDF.
For the difference between the two, read Uttarakhand Gazette vs Gazette of India.
Which Mistakes Do Veterans' Families Make?
| Mistake | What to do |
|---|---|
| Never reading the pension order | Download it, and read every entry |
| Leaving the wife's name incomplete | Have it entered in full, now |
| No date of birth for the wife | Have it added, with proof |
| Changing the service record to follow a careless Aadhaar | Correct Aadhaar |
| Leaving it to the widow | The pensioner asks, while he can |
| Giving the login to an agent | The family, or the Zila Sainik Kalyan office |
| Not telling the family where the order is | Tell them, and keep copies |
| Correcting the order and not the health card | Carry it through |
| Asking for a Gazette for a wife's fuller name | Her identity papers are enough |
A typical case we handle: a retired havildar in Pauri found, when his son downloaded his pension order, that his wife was entered as "Bimla", with no date of birth. Her Aadhaar and bank account read "Vimla Devi Negi". He rang us for a Gazette to change her name. None was needed. Bimla and Vimla were one name, written two ways, and she had changed nothing. He raised a request on the portal with her Aadhaar and PAN, and went to the Zila Sainik Kalyan office when it stalled. This is an illustrative example of the type of case we handle, not a named client review.
When you do not need us
For a spelling, a wife's fuller name, a missing date of birth and a spouse added after retirement. The record office and the defence accounts office settle those on identity papers. We are useful only where a name has in fact been changed and proof of the change is asked for.
Which Areas of Uttarakhand Do We Cover?
All 13 districts: Dehradun, Haridwar, Pauri Garhwal, Tehri Garhwal, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Uttarkashi, Nainital, Udham Singh Nagar, Almora, Bageshwar, Champawat and Pithoragarh. A correction is asked for on the pension portal or through your district's Zila Sainik Kalyan office. Send photos of the pension order and the family's Aadhaar on WhatsApp, and we will tell you which entries differ.

The Pension Order: The Short Version
A defence pensioner should download his pension payment order and read every entry: his own name and date of birth, and above all his wife's full name and date of birth. Where an entry differs from identity papers, decide which paper is wrong. A request is raised on the pension portal with proof, vetted by the record office, and answered with a corrigendum order. The Zila Sainik Kalyan office helps. Do it while the pensioner is alive.
A spelling needs no Gazette. To find out which entries differ, send photos on WhatsApp 9540005064, and we will reply in working hours.
