Sri Dev Suman University Degree Name Correction

For students and former students of the state university in Tehri Garhwal whose marksheet or degree carries a wrong name: which name its degree form asks for, who corrects a marksheet, what to settle first, and how a correction differs from a change of name.

Quick answer

A Sri Dev Suman University degree name correction is asked for from the university, usually through your college, with your high school certificate. Its degree form asks for the name as per that certificate, in English and in Hindi. Have a wrong marksheet corrected before you apply for the degree. A slip needs no Gazette.

Sri Dev Suman University asks for your name as per the high school certificate, so correct any marksheet slip through your college before the degree form.

This is the state university that most colleges of the Garhwal region now come under, from Rishikesh and Dehradun to the high valleys. A Sri Dev Suman University degree name correction is asked for most often when a first job or a recruitment calls for the degree. This page explains Sri Dev Suman University degree name correction for its students and former students.

We do not deal with the university. We prepare the Gazette notification, where a name has in fact been changed. What its degree form asks for is from a copy of that form hosted by an affiliated college. We did not find its rule, form or fee for a correction. For the older university at Srinagar, read HNB Garhwal University degree name correction.

What Is the University, and Who Are Its Students?

  • What it is. A state university, set up under a state Act of 2011, with its seat at Badshahithaul in Tehri Garhwal.
  • Where it teaches. Mostly through Government, aided and private colleges affiliated to it.
  • How one is admitted. Through the state's online admission portal for its universities.
  • What identifies a student. A roll number and an enrolment number, with the college and the examination centre.
  • Who issues the marksheets and the degree. The university, to students of every affiliated college.

Most of its students never see the university's own office. They deal with a college in their town. The paper that matters, though, is issued from Badshahithaul.

What Does the Degree Form Ask For?

From a copy of the university's application form for a degree, provisional certificate, migration and duplicates, hosted by an affiliated college. The copy carries no date, and the university may have revised it.

What the university's application form for a degree asks a student for
FieldAs the form asks
NameAs per the high school certificate, in English and in Hindi
Father's name and mother's nameEach on its own line
Date of birthWith a telephone number
Roll number and enrolment numberAs on the marksheet
ExaminationIts name, whether regular or private, the year of passing and the division
College and centreBy name
SubjectsListed one by one
Where it goesTo the registrar of the university, by registered post

The first row is the one for this page. The university names its standard in the form itself. The form lists a degree, a provisional degree, a migration certificate and a duplicate marksheet. It has no line for a correction.

Where Does the Name Come From?

  1. The high school certificate fixes the name, the parents' names and the date of birth.
  2. The admission form, on the state's portal or at the college, carries them to the college.
  3. The college's admission register is written from it.
  4. The enrolment is made by the university from the college's list.
  5. Each examination form is filled every year or semester.
  6. Each marksheet is printed from the university's record.
  7. The degree is printed on the student's application, in the name the form asks for.

The student fills two forms by hand or on a screen: the admission form at the start, and the degree form at the end. Years lie between them, and the second is often filled from memory.

What Kinds of Mismatch Are There?

A marksheet differs from the high school certificate

  • A spelling, initials, a missing surname or a wrong parent's name
  • The slip entered at admission, or in printing
  • Corrected by the university, through the college

The degree form was filled differently from the marksheets

  • The marksheets are right, and the student wrote another form of the name
  • Or a different Hindi spelling
  • Avoided by copying. Corrected by the university if the degree is printed wrong

A changed name

  • The student married or changed a name after the high school certificate
  • The form asks for the certificate's name, so the degree follows it
  • Not a slip. Linked by the marriage certificate, or by a Gazette for a change by choice

Because the form asks for the high school name, a woman who has since taken a married surname gets a degree in her earlier name. That is as the university intends, and it is nothing to correct. Read name change after marriage.

How Do You Have It Corrected?

This is the general method. We could not find the university's own form or fee for a correction.

Step 1: Lay out every marksheet of the course, with your high school certificate

Read your name, both parents' names and the date of birth on each.

Step 2: Check the roll number and the enrolment number too

The degree form asks for both.

Step 3: Ask your college to show its admission register

See whether the college's entry or the university's printing is at fault.

Step 4: Give the college a written request

Stating the entry as printed and as it should read, with your high school certificate.

Step 5: Ask how the university takes a correction

Its form, its fee, and whether the wrong marksheet has to be returned.

Step 6: Follow it up before the next examination form

Each form repeats the name on record.

Step 7: Bring Aadhaar to the same name

Admission and examination portals read it.

Step 8: Apply for the degree only after the marksheets are right

In the name on the high school certificate, as the form asks.

What Does "As per the High School Certificate" Mean for You?

  • The form does not ask for the name on Aadhaar, or the name you use now. It asks for the name on the high school certificate.
  • So that certificate has to be right before anything else. A slip on it is corrected by the school board, within its own limits.
  • It also has to be the paper you copy from. Write the degree form with the certificate open in front of you.
  • The Hindi line is taken the same way. A certificate from a Hindi-medium board carries the name in Hindi. Use that spelling.
  • The parents' names follow the same paper. "Singh" left off a father's name on the form will be left off the degree.
  • A student whose identity papers have since drifted from the certificate should bring those back, not push the degree forward.

Read name change in education documents and date of birth correction.

What Is the College's Part, and the University's?

  • The college keeps the admission register and its copy of each examination form. It is the first desk for any request.
  • The university keeps the enrolment and the results, and prints the marksheets and the degree. It alone can change them.
  • A request travels from the student to the college, and from the college to the university.
  • Where the college's register is right and only a marksheet is wrong, the college can say so in a covering letter.
  • One guide advises applying through the college within fifteen days of a marksheet. We could not confirm that as the university's rule. It is sound advice all the same.
  • A former student, or one whose college has closed, writes to the university directly, with the roll number and the enrolment number.

Ask the college for a dated copy of what it forwards. Private colleges in particular change staff often, and a request can be lost with them.

What If Your Marksheets Are From Two Universities?

  • This university was set up in 2011 and 2012. Colleges of the region had until then been under the older university at Srinagar.
  • A student who was midway through a course in those years, or who took a bachelor's degree under one and a master's under the other, holds papers from both.
  • The two were printed from two records. They need not agree.
  • Each university corrects only its own paper. Read the name of the university printed at the top of the marksheet that is wrong.
  • The degree is issued by the university that held the final examination.
  • We did not confirm which colleges moved, or in which year. Your college's office will know.

Read HNB Garhwal University degree name correction, which has that university's own form and instructions.

What About Applying for the Degree?

  1. The form. The university's application for a degree, provisional certificate or migration.
  2. The name. As per the high school certificate, in English and in Hindi.
  3. The parents. The father's name and the mother's name.
  4. The details. Date of birth, roll number, enrolment number, the examination, regular or private, the year and the division.
  5. The college, the centre and the subjects. As on the marksheets.
  6. The fee. As the current form states.
  7. Where it goes. To the registrar at Badshahithaul, by registered post, as the copy we read shows.

Ask your college or the university whether the degree is now applied for online. Whichever way, do it soon after the final result, while the college remembers you.

Where Is the Degree Read?

  • Recruitment. A commission or a department reads the degree with every earlier certificate, from the high school certificate upward.
  • Professional courses. Admission to a teaching degree or a law degree rests on it.
  • Further study. Another university reads it at admission, with a migration certificate.
  • Verification. An employer may ask the university to confirm it. The reply comes from the university's record.
  • The provisional certificate. Issued before the degree, it carries the same name.

Read B.Ed degree name correction, migration certificate name correction and name mismatch at document verification.

How Does the Central Gazette Route Work?

Use this where your name has in fact been changed by choice, so that your certificates are right for a name you no longer use. It does nothing for a slip, which the university corrects.

Step 1: Confirm that your name has in fact changed

A slip against the high school certificate is corrected by the university.

Step 2: Ask the university how it treats a changed name

Its form asks for the name as per the high school certificate. A later change is usually shown by a Gazette kept beside the degree.

Step 3: Fix the exact new name, and copy the old name from the high school certificate

Letter by letter.

Step 4: Make the affidavit and publish the newspaper notice

Sign before a notary. Publish in a daily local leading newspaper, and keep the original newspaper.

Step 5: Type the form and sign the undertaking

Two typed copies of the specimen, signed in your old name with two witnesses, and the undertaking.

Step 6: Prepare the CD, photographs and certificate

The same text on a CD in MS Word, two self-attested photographs with identity proof, and a certificate that both copies match.

Step 7: Pay the charge on BharatKosh

Commonly Rs 1,100 for an adult. It is not refunded.

Step 8: Send the file yourself, then carry the Gazette with your degree

Send it to the Controller of Publications, Department of Publication, Civil Lines, Delhi 110054. Update Aadhaar, and show the Gazette wherever the degree is read.

See gazette name change in Uttarakhand.

Would the Uttarakhand Gazette Do?

A state university and a state employer may accept it. A graduate who may work or study elsewhere is better served by the Gazette of India.

Step 1: Ask whoever will read the degree

A state university and a state employer may accept either.

Step 2: Think about Aadhaar, PAN and a post in another state

The Gazette of India serves them all.

Step 3: Contact the Roorkee press

Take the contact from govtpress.uk.gov.in and ask if a private change of name notice is being accepted.

Step 4: Ask for the papers, the format and the fee, and submit

Keep photocopies of everything.

Step 5: Download the notice

Search gazettes.uk.gov.in and save the PDF.

To weigh the two, read Uttarakhand Gazette vs Gazette of India.

Which Mistakes Do Students Make?

Common mistakes with a name on a marksheet or degree of the university
MistakeWhat to do
Filling the degree form from Aadhaar or from memoryCopy it from the high school certificate
Not reading the first marksheetRead it the day it is collected
Reading only your own nameRead both parents' names and the date of birth
Writing the Hindi name differently each timeUse the spelling on the certificate
Asking this university to correct another's marksheetEach corrects its own
Leaving the degree until a recruitment asks for itTake it soon after the final result
Keeping no copy of what the college forwardedAsk for a dated copy
Getting a Gazette for a spelling slipThe university corrects its slip
Writing on a marksheet by handNever. Ask for a corrected one

A typical case we handle: a student at a college in Rishikesh found that his second year marksheet read "Abhishek Rawat, son of Trilok Singh". His high school certificate and first year marksheet read "son of Trilok Singh Rawat". A friend suggested a Gazette, to be safe before a police recruitment. Nobody's name had changed, so it was not the remedy. He gave the principal a written request with his certificate and both marksheets, the college sent it to the university, and he took the corrected marksheet before filling the degree form. This is an illustrative example of the type of case we handle, not a named client review.

It is reviewed by Advocate Vipin Chauhan.

What the degree form asks for, including the name as per the high school certificate in English and in Hindi, and that it is addressed to the registrar by registered post, are from an undated copy of the university's form hosted by an affiliated college, not from the university's own site. That the university was set up under a state Act of 2011 and sits at Badshahithaul is from a general reference. The advice to apply within fifteen days is from one guide. That colleges of the region were earlier under the university at Srinagar is general knowledge, and we did not confirm which or when. We found no rule, form or fee for a correction. Your college and the university are the authority.
