Gig Worker Registration Name Mismatch in Uttarakhand: Delivery and Ride Platforms
For delivery partners, cab and bike-taxi drivers and other platform workers in Uttarakhand, whose name in the app, on e-Shram, the licence, the vehicle papers or the bank account does not agree: what the law now recognises, why e-Shram and the benefits announced for platform workers read Aadhaar, and what to correct.
A gig worker registration name mismatch is fixed by bringing your app profile, e-Shram, licence and bank account to your Aadhaar name. Correct the odd paper at its own office, then ask the platform's support to update your profile, and register on e-Shram in the same name. No Gazette is needed for a short form.

Thousands in Dehradun, Haridwar and Haldwani earn by delivering food and parcels or driving through apps. Each joined with a phone and a few papers, and the app may use a nickname. Since 2025 the Government has asked platform workers to register on e-Shram for an identity card and health cover. A gig worker registration name mismatch is the gap between them. This page explains gig worker registration name mismatch.
We do not deal with platforms, and this subject needs no Gazette. What the law and Budget provide is from the labour ministry's own releases. For the e-Shram card itself, read e-Shram and labour card.
What Is Gig and Platform Work, in Brief?
- Gig workers. People who work outside a regular employer and employee arrangement.
- Platform workers. Gig workers whose work comes through an online app or platform.
- Aggregators. The companies that run those platforms.
- The law. The Code on Social Security, 2020, which names these workers for the first time.
- The register. The e-Shram portal, the national database of unorganised workers.
The app knows you by whatever you typed when you joined. e-Shram knows you by Aadhaar. Benefits sit where the two meet.
What Does the Ministry Say?
From the labour ministry's releases of 2025 on social security for gig and platform workers.
| Point | What is said |
|---|---|
| The law | The Code on Social Security, 2020, in force from 21 November 2025, defines gig and platform workers for the first time |
| What it provides for | Social security measures, a Social Security Fund, and a National Social Security Board for these workers |
| The 2025 Budget | Registration on e-Shram, identity cards, and health cover under Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY |
| Aggregator module | Launched on e-Shram on 12 December 2024, for platforms to register themselves and their workers |
| Registrations | About 5.12 lakh platform workers registered on e-Shram by 1 December 2025 |
The third and fourth rows are why names matter. The platform's record of you and your e-Shram record may be joined, and should name you the same way.
Where Is Your Name Written?
| Record | Kept by | Where it is corrected |
|---|---|---|
| The app profile | The platform | The platform's support |
| e-Shram | The labour ministry | Follows Aadhaar |
| Driving licence and vehicle registration | The transport office | The transport office |
| The payout account | The bank | The branch |
| Aadhaar and PAN | Their own offices | Their own offices |
| The Ayushman card | The health authority | Its own process |
The app profile is the one most often loose, and the one you can most easily fix.
What Kinds of Mismatch Are There?
A nickname in the app
- Typed when you joined
- Aadhaar has a fuller name
- Support updates it on proof
Your papers disagree
- Licence one way, Aadhaar another
- The app checked one at onboarding
- The odd paper corrected
Someone else's papers
- A vehicle in a father's name, a payout to a friend
- Not a spelling at all
- Your own, or the owner's consent
The third is where trouble starts. An account run on someone else's papers is easily blocked.
Which Case Is Yours?
| The situation | Route | Gazette? |
|---|---|---|
| The app has a nickname | The platform's support, on Aadhaar | No |
| The licence differs from Aadhaar | The transport office | No |
| The vehicle is in a relative's name | Transfer it, or the owner's consent | No |
| The payout account differs | The branch, then the app | No |
| Aadhaar is the wrong paper | An Aadhaar centre | No |
| e-Shram differs from the app | e-Shram follows Aadhaar. Update the app | No |
| The Ayushman card differs | Ayushman card correction | No |
| You changed your name by choice | Gazette, then Aadhaar and the rest | Yes |
A Gazette appears once in eight rows. Support, the transport office and the bank settle the rest.
How Do You Put It Right?
This is the general method. Each platform has its own support process.
Step 1: Read the name the app holds for you
In your profile, and on any payout statement.
Step 2: Put your Aadhaar, licence, vehicle papers and bank passbook beside it
The app checks some of these when you join.
Step 3: Correct the odd paper first
Aadhaar at its centre, the licence or registration at the transport office.
Step 4: Ask the platform's support to update your profile
With the corrected papers. Keep the ticket number.
Step 5: Register on e-Shram in your Aadhaar name
The portal reads Aadhaar, and the platform may also register you through its module.
Step 6: Check that the platform's record and e-Shram agree
Benefits announced for platform workers rest on that registration.
Step 7: Link your Ayushman card in the same name
Health cover for platform workers runs through Ayushman Bharat.
Step 8: Keep payout statements and the e-Shram card
They show your work and identity together.
What About the App Profile?
- When you joined, the app asked for a name, a phone number and some papers.
- Many workers typed a short name, or a name friends use.
- Platforms commonly check a licence, Aadhaar or PAN at onboarding.
- Ask support to set your profile name to your Aadhaar name, with proof.
- Keep the ticket number and a screenshot of the change.
- Do not open a second account in another name. Platforms may block both.
Read UPI name mismatch, often shown with the app's payouts.
What About e-Shram and the Identity Card?
- The 2025 Budget asked platform workers to register on e-Shram, and promised identity cards.
- e-Shram registration uses Aadhaar, so it carries your Aadhaar name.
- Platforms can register their workers through the aggregator module.
- Check your own e-Shram registration, and that it matches what the platform holds.
- One registration is enough, however many platforms you work for.
- Keep the e-Shram card. It is the record that benefits will read.
Read e-Shram and labour card.
What About the Licence and Vehicle?
- Delivery and ride platforms commonly ask for a driving licence and the vehicle's registration.
- The licence should carry your Aadhaar name.
- A bike in a father's or brother's name is common. Ask the platform what it accepts.
- A commercial ride may need a commercial licence and permit. Ask the transport office.
- Insurance on the vehicle should name its owner as the registration does.
- Correct each at the transport office, not through the app.
Read driving licence, vehicle RC, taxi permit and motor insurance.
What About Payouts and the Bank?
- Platforms pay into the account you give them.
- An account in a different form of your name, or someone else's, can be held for checks.
- Give your own account, in your Aadhaar name.
- Payouts are also your record of work, for a loan or a claim.
- Keep monthly statements from the app and the bank.
- Tell the platform when you change your bank.
Read bank records.
What About Health Cover and Accidents?
- The 2025 Budget announced health cover for platform workers under Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY.
- Your Ayushman card should carry your Aadhaar name.
- Reports say the Code provides for aggregators to contribute to a fund for these workers.
- Some platforms carry accident insurance for workers on duty. Ask yours.
- After an accident, the platform's record of you and your papers will be read together.
- Keep them all in one name now.
Read Ayushman card and workplace injury claims.
Where Does a Gazette Come In?
Only where a worker has changed a name by choice. A nickname in an app needs support, not a Gazette.
Step 1: Confirm that your name has in fact changed
A short form in an app profile is not a change of name.
Step 2: Remember the order
Aadhaar, then the licence and bank, then the app and e-Shram.
Step 3: Fix the exact new name
The spelling that will go on Aadhaar and every later paper.
Step 4: Make the affidavit and publish the newspaper notice
Sign before a notary. Publish in a daily local leading newspaper, and keep the original newspaper.
Step 5: Type the form and sign the undertaking
Two typed copies of the specimen, signed in your old name with two witnesses, and the undertaking.
Step 6: Prepare the CD, photographs and certificate
The same text on a CD in MS Word, two self-attested photographs with identity proof, and a certificate that both copies match.
Step 7: Pay the charge on BharatKosh
Commonly Rs 1,100 for an adult. It is not refunded.
Step 8: Send the file yourself, then update in order
Send it to the Controller of Publications, Department of Publication, Civil Lines, Delhi 110054. Then Aadhaar, the licence, the bank, the app and e-Shram.
Which Gazette Should You Use?
e-Shram and Aadhaar are central. The Gazette of India is the one to use.
Step 1: Remember whose portal this is
e-Shram is the Union labour ministry's.
Step 2: Remember what it reads
Aadhaar, which is central.
Step 3: Prefer the Gazette of India
It serves Aadhaar and the banks.
Step 4: Contact the Roorkee press only if a state notice suits another purpose
Take the contact from govtpress.uk.gov.in and ask if a private change of name notice is being accepted.
Step 5: Download the notice
Search egazette.gov.in and save the PDF.
For the difference between the two, read Uttarakhand Gazette vs Gazette of India.
Which Mistakes Do Platform Workers Make?
| Mistake | What to do |
|---|---|
| A nickname in the app | Your Aadhaar name |
| Payouts to a friend's account | Your own account |
| A second account in another name | One account, your name |
| Not registering on e-Shram | Register in your Aadhaar name |
| A licence in another spelling | Correct it at the transport office |
| Riding a relative's bike without consent papers | Ask the platform what it needs |
| Not keeping payout statements | Keep them monthly |
| Buying a "verified account" from an agent | Never |
| Asking for a Gazette for an app name | Support updates it |
A typical case we handle: a delivery partner in Dehradun had joined a food app as "Sonu". His Aadhaar, licence and bank read "Sunil Kumar". When he registered on e-Shram and tried to link it with the app for the identity card, the names did not match. A friend told him to get a Gazette. He did not need one. He asked the app's support to change his profile name, with his Aadhaar and licence, and the records were matched. This is an illustrative example of the type of case we handle, not a named client review.

That the Code on Social Security, 2020, in force from 21 November 2025, defines gig and platform workers and provides for social security measures, a fund and a board, that the 2025 Budget announced e-Shram registration, identity cards and Ayushman cover, the aggregator module of 12 December 2024, and the registration figure, are from the labour ministry's releases. The aggregator contribution is from reports of the Code. How platforms onboard and pay workers is general practice and varies. We name no platform's own rules. The platforms and the labour ministry are the authority.

Platform Workers and Names: The Short Version
The Social Security Code now recognises gig and platform workers, and the 2025 Budget asked them to register on e-Shram for an identity card and Ayushman cover. e-Shram reads Aadhaar. Bring your app profile, licence, vehicle papers and payout account to your Aadhaar name: correct the odd paper at its office, then ask the platform's support. Keep one account, in your own name.
No Gazette is needed for a short form. To find out which paper differs, send photos on WhatsApp 9540005064, and we will reply in working hours.
