Home Guard Recruitment Name Mismatch in Uttarakhand
For young men and women applying to be home guard volunteers, whose class 10 certificate, permanent residence certificate and Aadhaar do not carry one name: what the district office reads, which paper to correct first, and why it has to be done before a notice comes out.
A home guard recruitment name mismatch is avoided by applying in the name on the class 10 certificate, with Aadhaar and the permanent residence certificate already brought to it. Correct each paper at its own office before a notice comes out, since the window is short. A slip needs no Gazette.

Home guard enrolment is open to those who have passed class 10, and it is held district by district, at short notice. For many young people in the hills it is the first uniform within reach. A home guard recruitment name mismatch is found on the day papers are checked, after the run has been passed. This page explains home guard recruitment name mismatch for candidates in Uttarakhand.
We do not fill forms or deal with the district offices, and this subject seldom needs a Gazette. What a notice asks for is as reports of a 2026 notice for one district describe it. Each district's own notice is the authority. For the stage where originals are read, see name mismatch at document verification.
Who Are Home Guards, and Who Enrols Them?
- What they do. Home guards help the police and the administration with traffic, fairs and pilgrimages, elections, disasters and guard duty.
- Their standing. They are enrolled as volunteers, and called up for duty as needed.
- Who enrols them. The district commandant of home guards, for that district, under the state's home guards department.
- How. On a notice for the district. Reports of a 2026 Dehradun notice describe a paper application given to the district office.
- Who can apply. Those who meet the notice's conditions of residence, schooling, age and physical standards.
The process is local and quick. A notice gives a few weeks, the tests take a day or two, and the papers are checked by a small office. There is little time and no machinery for sorting out a name.
What Does a Notice Ask For?
From reports of the Dehradun district notice of 2026 on job notice sites. We did not read the notice itself, and other districts and years differ.
| Condition | As reported | Proved by |
|---|---|---|
| Residence | A permanent resident of that district only | The permanent residence certificate |
| Schooling | Class 10 pass, from a recognised board | The class 10 certificate and marksheet |
| Age | Between stated limits, on a stated date | The class 10 certificate |
| Physique | Measurements that have to be met | The test itself |
| Merit | A physical efficiency test carrying marks, with marks for high school counted | The test, and the class 10 marksheet |
| Fitness | A medical examination | The examination |
Two papers do most of the work: the class 10 certificate and the permanent residence certificate. One is from a school board, written when the candidate was fifteen. The other is from the tehsil, typed last month. They are the pair most likely to disagree.
Where Does Each Name Come From?
- The class 10 certificate. From the school's register, as the board printed it.
- Aadhaar. Made in childhood or later, from whatever paper was at hand.
- The permanent residence certificate. Applied for at a service centre, and typed from Aadhaar or the family register.
- Category certificates. The same, often years apart.
- The application. Written by the candidate, by hand.
- The enrolment record. Opened by the district office from the application and the papers.
A village boy called by one name at home, entered by another at school and typed a third way at the service centre has done nothing wrong. He will still be asked which of the three he is.
What Kinds of Mismatch Are There?
A certificate differs from class 10
- The residence or category certificate has another spelling, or no surname
- Typed from Aadhaar or from memory
- Cured by a fresh certificate
Aadhaar differs from class 10
- A pet name, a missing surname or a different date of birth
- Every later certificate copies it
- Cured at an Aadhaar centre, first of all
The father's name differs
- Initials on one paper, the full name on another
- Or a different spelling in the family register
- Cured on the paper that differs from class 10
A fourth situation is different in kind: the candidate's name has in fact been changed since class 10. That needs a Gazette, and far more time than a notice gives.
Which Case Is Yours?
| The situation | Route | Gazette? |
|---|---|---|
| Aadhaar has a spelling slip against class 10 | Correct Aadhaar | No |
| The residence certificate has a different spelling | A fresh certificate from the tehsil | No |
| The father's name is shortened on a certificate | A fresh certificate, in the full name | No |
| The date of birth on Aadhaar differs from class 10 | Correct Aadhaar to class 10 | No |
| The class 10 certificate itself is wrong | The board, through the school, within its limits | No |
| A woman candidate's papers are split between two surnames | Apply in the class 10 name, with the marriage certificate | No |
| The form was written with a slip | A written request to the district office, at once | No |
| The name was in fact changed after class 10 | Gazette. Not possible inside one notice | Yes |
A Gazette appears once in eight rows. Everything else is a visit to the tehsil or an Aadhaar centre, made in good time.
What Should You Do Before a Notice Comes Out?
Step 1: Read the district's notice
Which district it is for, the qualification, the age limits and the papers it lists.
Step 2: Put the class 10 certificate in front of you
The name, the father's name and the date of birth on it are the ones to use.
Step 3: Put Aadhaar and the permanent residence certificate beside it
Mark any difference, letter by letter.
Step 4: Correct the paper that differs, at its own office
Aadhaar at an Aadhaar centre. A certificate at the tehsil, by a fresh issue.
Step 5: Get category and other certificates in the same name
With the father's name as on class 10.
Step 6: Fill the form by hand, in block letters, from the class 10 certificate
These forms are often on paper. Keep a photocopy of what you submit.
Step 7: Carry originals and an identity paper to every stage
The same identity paper each time.
Step 8: Give a bank account in the same name, if you are enrolled
Duty allowance is paid by transfer.
What About the Permanent Residence Certificate?
- Enrolment is by district. Reports of the Dehradun notice say only permanent residents of that district could apply, on a certificate.
- The certificate is issued by the tehsil. It names the applicant and the father, and the village or ward.
- It is typed from the application made at a service centre. Hand over the class 10 certificate, and ask for the name and the father's name to be copied from it.
- An old certificate in an old spelling is replaced by a fresh one. Offices seldom correct an issued certificate.
- A candidate living in one district and recorded in another should apply where the certificate says. A wrong district is not a name problem, and it is fatal all the same.
- Take it in good time. Certificates take days, and a notice does not wait.
Read name change in residence certificate and name correction in the family register.
What About Class 10, Marks and Age?
- Class 10 is the qualification. Reports of the notice also count high school marks towards the merit list.
- So the class 10 marksheet does three jobs: it qualifies the candidate, adds to the merit, and proves the age.
- That is why the application is made in its name, and why every other paper is brought to it.
- Age is fixed on a date stated in the notice. A different date of birth on Aadhaar raises a doubt that is easy to remove beforehand.
- A candidate who passed from the open school, or from another state's board, shows that certificate. Its name is the one to follow.
- A candidate with a higher qualification still applies on class 10. All the certificates should agree with one another.
Read name change in education documents, date of birth correction and NIOS certificate name correction.
What About the Form, and the Physical Test?
- Reports describe a paper form, given in person or by post to the district office. A handwritten form has no preview and no correction window.
- Write in block letters, from the class 10 certificate, and keep a photocopy of the filled form.
- Candidates are called for physical measurement and a physical efficiency test, by a list put up at the office.
- On the day an identity paper is checked against the list. Carry the one whose name matches your form.
- Marks are entered against the name on the list. A candidate who appears twice under two spellings has a problem at merit.
- Originals are read at the end, by which time the run has been passed and the hope is high.
What About the Character Check?
- Enrolment in a uniformed service is normally subject to a check of character and antecedents, through the local police.
- The check is made in the name and at the address the candidate gives.
- A candidate known in the village by one name and applying under another can come back as "not known at this address".
- Give the name as on class 10, and say plainly by what name you are known locally, where the form asks for other names.
- A case or complaint recorded against a similar name is answered by the father's name and the address, which tell two people apart.
We did not confirm how the check is done for home guards in the state. Read name mismatch in police verification and character certificate.
What Matters After Enrolment?
- The enrolment record. The district office enters the volunteer in a name and gives a number. Read the entry.
- The identity card. Issued in that name. It is shown on every duty.
- The bank account. Duty allowance is paid by transfer. An account in another form of the name can send it back.
- Welfare and insurance cover. Claimed by a nominee. Name the nominee as on the nominee's Aadhaar.
- Later recruitments. Service as a home guard is sometimes given weight in other recruitments. The service certificate will carry the enrolled name.

Where Does a Gazette Come In?
Only where your name has in fact been changed since class 10, so that the certificate is right for a name you no longer use. It does nothing for a slip on Aadhaar or a certificate.
Step 1: Confirm that your name has in fact changed
A slip on Aadhaar or a certificate is corrected at its own office.
Step 2: Look at the last date
A Gazette commonly takes 3 to 7 weeks. It will not arrive inside one notice.
Step 3: Fix the exact new name, and copy the old name from the class 10 certificate
Letter by letter.
Step 4: Make the affidavit and publish the newspaper notice
Sign before a notary. Publish in a daily local leading newspaper, and keep the original newspaper.
Step 5: Type the form and sign the undertaking
Two typed copies of the specimen, signed in your old name with two witnesses, and the undertaking.
Step 6: Prepare the CD, photographs and certificate
The same text on a CD in MS Word, two self-attested photographs with identity proof, and a certificate that both copies match.
Step 7: Pay the charge on BharatKosh
Commonly Rs 1,100 for an adult. It is not refunded.
Step 8: Send the file yourself, then update Aadhaar and your certificates
Send it to the Controller of Publications, Department of Publication, Civil Lines, Delhi 110054.
Would the Uttarakhand Gazette Do?
The district office is a state office and may accept it. Aadhaar, the bank and central recruitments are the reasons to prefer the Gazette of India.
Step 1: Ask the district commandant's office which Gazette it accepts
It is a state office.
Step 2: Think about Aadhaar, the bank and other recruitments
The Gazette of India serves them all.
Step 3: Contact the Roorkee press
Take the contact from govtpress.uk.gov.in and ask if a private change of name notice is being accepted.
Step 4: Ask for the papers, the format and the fee, and submit
Keep photocopies of everything.
Step 5: Download the notice
Search gazettes.uk.gov.in and save the PDF.
To weigh the two, read Uttarakhand Gazette vs Gazette of India.
Which Mistakes Do Candidates Make?
| Mistake | What to do |
|---|---|
| Waiting for a notice before looking at the papers | Put them in order now |
| Applying in the Aadhaar name where it differs from class 10 | Apply in the class 10 name |
| Using an old residence certificate in an old spelling | Take a fresh one |
| Reading only your own name | Read the father's name and the date of birth too |
| Applying in the wrong district | Apply where your certificate says you belong |
| Keeping no copy of a paper form | Photocopy it before you hand it in |
| Carrying a different identity paper to each stage | Carry the same one |
| Rushing for a Gazette before a last date | A slip is corrected at its own office |
| Paying someone who promises enrolment | Nobody can. The list is made on marks and papers |
A typical case we handle: a young man from a village in Tehri passed the run for home guard enrolment. His class 10 certificate read "Sandeep Singh Bisht, son of Balbir Singh Bisht". His permanent residence certificate, typed from Aadhaar, read "Sandeep Bisht, son of Balveer Singh". The office held his papers, and his uncle asked us for a Gazette. None was needed, and none could have come in time. He corrected his Aadhaar on the class 10 certificate, took a fresh residence certificate in the same name, and gave both to the office within the time it allowed. This is an illustrative example of the type of case we handle, not a named client review.
When you do not need us

That enrolment is held by the district commandant, on a paper application, for permanent residents of the district who have passed class 10, with a physical test, marks for high school and a medical examination, is from job notice sites' reports of the Dehradun district notice of 2026. We did not read that notice, the state's home guards law or any other district's notice. The character check, the duty allowance and what follows enrolment are general. Which paper to correct first is our guidance. The district commandant's office and its notice are the authority.
