CUET Application Name Mismatch in Uttarakhand
For students applying to universities through the common entrance test, whose class 10 certificate, class 12 record, Aadhaar and certificates do not carry one name: which name to enter, what the correction window allows, and what the university reads again at admission.
A CUET application name mismatch is avoided by typing the form from the class 10 certificate, with Aadhaar and the class 12 record already brought to it. A slip can be corrected once, in the correction window. After that the testing agency entertains no change, and the university reads the papers again at admission.
The common university entrance test is one form, filled in class 12, that decides which universities a student can enter. A CUET application name mismatch does not stop the test. It stops the admission, months later, at a counter in another city. This page explains CUET application name mismatch for students in Uttarakhand.

What Is the Test, and Who Admits?
- What it is. A common entrance test for admission to undergraduate courses in central universities and many others that have joined it.
- Who conducts it. The national testing agency, on an online form.
- What it gives. A scorecard. It does not give a seat.
- Who admits. Each university, through its own registration and counselling, on the score.
- In this state. News reports of the first round named the central university in Garhwal among those admitting through the test. Other universities decide for themselves each year.
So a student's name is typed at least twice: once for the test, and again for each university. And it is read at least three times: at the examination hall, at the university's verification, and at the college's counter.
What Does the Correction Window Allow?
From the testing agency's public notices on corrections, as universities have reproduced them. The rule has not been the same every year.

Two lessons hold whatever this year's notice says. The window is the only chance. And in some years a candidate with two wrong names, say the candidate's and the mother's, could put right only one of them. Get all three right the first time.
Which Names Does the Form Ask For?
- The candidate's name. Read later against the class 10 certificate and the class 12 marksheet.
- The father's name. Read against the same certificates.
- The mother's name. Read against the same certificates, which often carry her maiden name.
- The date of birth. Read against the class 10 certificate.
- Identity. An identity number and a photograph, checked at the examination hall.
- Category. Claimed in the form, proved by a certificate at admission.
Three people's names go into one form, and all three are held against papers issued years apart. Students check their own name and guess at their mother's.
What Kinds of Mismatch Are There?
A typing slip in the form
- The papers are right, and the form was typed wrongly
- Usually at a cyber cafe, from memory or from Aadhaar
- Cured in the correction window, and only there
The papers disagree with each other
- Class 10, class 12, Aadhaar or a certificate carries a different spelling or a missing surname
- No form can match them all
- Cured by correcting the paper that differs, before the form
A changed name
- The student's name has in fact been changed since class 10
- Class 10 is right for the old name
- A Gazette links the two. It has to be ready before the form opens
The second kind is the one worth an hour in class 11. Once the class 12 result is out, the board's record is hard to move, and the university will hold two certificates that disagree.

A Gazette appears once in eight rows. It is also the one that cannot be done inside an application season.
What Should You Do Before the Form Opens?
Step 1: Put the class 10 certificate in front of you
The name, the father's name, the mother's name and the date of birth on it are the ones to use.
Step 2: Check the class 12 registration against it
The admit card or registration slip of your board. Tell the school now if it differs.
Step 3: Check Aadhaar against it
The form and the examination hall both read Aadhaar.
Step 4: Correct the paper that differs, at its own office
Aadhaar at an Aadhaar centre. The board's record through the school, within the board's dates.
Step 5: Get category and other certificates in the same name
In the format and for the year the bulletin names.
Step 6: Fill the form yourself, from the class 10 certificate
Letter by letter. The parents' names too.
Step 7: Read the confirmation page the day you submit
And use the correction window for any slip. It is allowed once.
Step 8: Fill each university's own form in exactly the same name
With the same application number.
What About the Form, the Admit Card and the Scorecard?
- The confirmation page. Printed when the form is submitted. Read all three names and the date of birth on it that day.
- The admit card. Printed from the form. The invigilator compares it with your photo identity.
- The scorecard. Printed from the form. It is the paper every university will ask for, and it cannot be retyped.
- A slip on the confirmation page that is not corrected in the window appears on both of the others.
- An identity paper in a different form of the name can cause trouble at the examination hall. Carry the one you named in the form.
- Keep the application number, the password and a print of each page. Universities ask for the application number.
Why Does the Class 12 Record Matter?
- The form is filled while the student is in class 12. The class 12 marksheet does not yet exist.
- What exists is the board's registration for class 12, made by the school. The marksheet will be printed from it.
- Where that registration differs from the class 10 certificate, the student will soon hold two board certificates in two forms of the name.
- A school can ask the board to correct a registration before the examination. After the result, boards correct only within limits and time.
- A student who changed boards between class 10 and class 12 should check this twice. A new school enters a new pupil from whatever paper it is handed.
- The admit card for the class 12 examination shows the name as registered. Read it when it comes.

What About Category and Other Certificates?
- A category is claimed in the form and proved at admission, by a certificate in the format the bulletin names.
- These certificates are issued at the tehsil on an application, and are often typed from Aadhaar.
- At admission they are read against the class 10 certificate and the scorecard.
- Certificates for the economically weaker sections and for the non-creamy layer are tied to a year. One issued for last year may not be accepted.
- A central university asks for the central format. Ask the tehsil for it by name.
- Get each certificate in the class 10 name before the form opens, since the form asks for the claim.

What About the University's Own Form?
- A score is not an admission. Each university opens its own registration for candidates who took the test.
- That form asks for the test's application number and the same personal details. Many universities fetch the test record and compare.
- A name typed differently in the university's form, even correctly, can fail to match the test record.
- So the second form is typed in exactly the name on the scorecard. Where the scorecard itself has a slip, tell the university in writing at this stage, with the class 10 certificate.
- A student applying to several universities fills several such forms. Each is a fresh chance to mistype.
- Universities in the state that admit on class 12 marks, without the test, read the same certificates in the same way.

What Is Read at Admission?
- The scorecard, against the university's own form.
- The class 10 certificate, for the name and the date of birth.
- The class 12 marksheet, for eligibility and the name.
- The school's leaving papers, and the board's migration certificate where the university asks for one.
- Category and other certificates, in the stated format and year.
- Identity, usually Aadhaar.
A small difference may be allowed on an undertaking. A real one costs the seat, or holds the admission as provisional until a corrected paper is brought. Read name mismatch at document verification, migration certificate name correction and school transfer certificate name correction.
How Does the Central Gazette Route Work?
Use this where your name has in fact changed since class 10, so that no correction will make your papers agree. It does nothing for a slip in the form, which only the correction window cures.
Step 1: Confirm that your name has in fact changed
A slip on Aadhaar or a certificate is corrected at its own office.
Step 2: Look at the calendar
A Gazette commonly takes 3 to 7 weeks. Start in class 11, not in the week the form opens.
Step 3: Fix the exact new name, and copy the old name from the class 10 certificate
Letter by letter.
Step 4: Make the affidavit and publish the newspaper notice
A parent acts for a student under eighteen. Publish in a daily local leading newspaper, and keep the original newspaper.
Step 5: Type the form and sign the undertaking
Two typed copies of the specimen with two witnesses, and the undertaking.
Step 6: Prepare the CD, photographs and certificate
The same text on a CD in MS Word, two self-attested photographs with identity proof, and a certificate that both copies match.
Step 7: Pay the charge on BharatKosh
Commonly Rs 1,100 for an adult and Rs 1,700 for a minor. It is not refunded.
Step 8: Send the file yourself, then update Aadhaar and ask the board
Send it to the Controller of Publications, Department of Publication, Civil Lines, Delhi 110054. Ask the board, through the school, how it records the change.

A typical case we handle: a student from Srinagar in Pauri got her score and was allotted a course. Her class 10 certificate read "Diksha Negi". The form, typed at a cafe from her Aadhaar, read "Deeksha Negi", and so did the scorecard. Her father asked us for a Gazette. Her name had never changed, so none was called for. She corrected her Aadhaar to the class 10 spelling and wrote to the university with both. It admitted her provisionally and took an undertaking for the difference on the scorecard. This is an illustrative example of the type of case we handle, not a named client review.
When you do not need us
