UGC NET Application Name Mismatch in Uttarakhand
For postgraduates whose degree papers, class 10 certificate and Aadhaar do not carry one name: which name to type, what the correction window has and has not allowed, and who reads the certificate afterwards, for a fellowship, a doctorate or a teaching post.
A UGC NET application name mismatch is avoided by typing your own name exactly as on your degree papers, with Aadhaar already brought to it. In the 2024 and 2025 rounds the candidate's name could not be edited in the correction window. The date of birth, the category and the parents' names could.

The national eligibility test is the gate to a research fellowship and to teaching in a college or a university. Its certificate is kept and shown for years. A UGC NET application name mismatch is therefore a long-lived one, and in recent rounds the candidate's own name could not be put right after submission. This page explains UGC NET application name mismatch for postgraduates in Uttarakhand.
We prepare the Gazette notification for a change of name. What the correction window allowed is from news reports of the testing agency's notices for 2024 and 2025. The bulletin for your session is the authority, and we did not read it. For the graduate engineering test, read GATE application name mismatch.
What Is the Test, and What Does It Decide?
- What it is. A national eligibility test for postgraduates, held in sessions through the year.
- Who conducts it. The national testing agency, for the university grants body, on an online form.
- What it decides. Reports of its notices list three things: eligibility for a junior research fellowship, for appointment as assistant professor, and for admission to a doctorate.
- What it gives. A scorecard, and a certificate for those who qualify.
- Who uses it. Universities, colleges and commissions, each on its own advertisement or admission notice.
The candidate types a name once. Every reader after that, for a fellowship, a seat or a post, holds the certificate in one hand and the candidate's degrees in the other.
What Has the Correction Window Allowed?
From news reports of the testing agency's notices for the sessions of 2024 and 2025.
| Field | In the correction window |
|---|---|
| The candidate's name | Not editable |
| The father's name | Editable |
| The mother's name | Editable |
| The date of birth | Editable |
| The category | Editable |
| Gender, photograph, signature, mobile number, email, address and examination city | Not editable |
| How long, and how often | Two or three days. The notice says no further opportunity is given |
One report of a later session describes the rule differently. Treat the strictest version as yours: the name you type is the name on the certificate. Get that one field right, and use the window for the others.
Which Papers Does a Postgraduate Hold?
- The class 10 certificate. The name and the date of birth, fixed at fifteen.
- The bachelor's degree. Issued by one university.
- The master's degree and its marksheets. Often from another university, sometimes still awaited.
- Aadhaar. Used at registration and at the hall, and perhaps changed since the degrees.
- Category certificates. From the tehsil, for a year.
- The test application. Typed by the candidate.
A candidate at twenty-three or thirty has ten or fifteen years of papers. Three institutions have each written the name once. The test adds a fourth version unless the candidate copies it carefully from the others.
What Kinds of Mismatch Are There?
A slip in the candidate's own name
- Typed wrongly, or from an Aadhaar that differs from the degrees
- The field that recent rounds did not let a candidate edit
- Avoided, far more easily than cured
A slip in another field
- A parent's name, the date of birth or the category
- Editable in the window
- Cured in those two or three days
The papers disagree, or the name changed
- The two degrees differ, or Aadhaar differs from both
- Or the candidate married, or changed a name by choice
- Settled before registering, by a correction, a marriage certificate or a Gazette
The first kind has no reliable cure here. That is the whole argument for doing the third kind's work in advance.
Which Case Is Yours?
| The situation | Route | Gazette? |
|---|---|---|
| Aadhaar has a spelling slip against the degrees | Correct Aadhaar before registering | No |
| The two degrees spell the name differently | The university whose paper is wrong corrects it | No |
| A parent's name was typed wrongly | The correction window | No |
| The date of birth was typed wrongly | The correction window | No |
| The candidate's own name was typed wrongly | Write to the testing agency at once, with certificates | No |
| A married surname is on Aadhaar only | Decide which name to use, and keep the marriage certificate | No |
| A category certificate has a different spelling | A fresh certificate from the tehsil | No |
| The name was changed by choice after the degrees | Gazette, before the form opens | Yes |
A Gazette appears once in eight rows. It has to be finished first, since the name it supports may not be editable once typed.
What Should You Do Before the Form Opens?
Step 1: Lay out class 10, the bachelor's degree and the master's papers
Write the name, both parents' names and the date of birth from each.
Step 2: Have any marksheet that differs corrected by the university
While you are still a student, through the department.
Step 3: Bring Aadhaar to the certificates' name
The application and the hall both read it.
Step 4: If your name has in fact changed, finish the Gazette or have the marriage certificate ready
Before the form opens.
Step 5: Get category certificates in the same name
In the central format, for the year the bulletin names.
Step 6: Type your own name as if it can never be edited
In recent rounds it could not be.
Step 7: Read the confirmation page the day you submit
Your parents' names and date of birth can be corrected in the window. Check them then.
Step 8: Keep the certificate, and use the same name with the university and the bank
For a fellowship, a doctoral admission or a post.
What About the Master's Degree Papers?
- The test is open to those who hold a master's degree, and to students in its last stage. Many apply before the degree is issued.
- What exists then is the university's enrolment and the marksheets so far. The degree will be printed from the same record.
- A candidate who changed universities between the bachelor's and the master's degree has two enrolments. They are often not identical.
- A slip is far easier to correct while the candidate is on the rolls. The department forwards the request.
- The state's universities, in Srinagar, Nainital, Almora, Dehradun and elsewhere, each correct their own records.
- Qualifying in the test is of no use without the degree, and the two are read together.
Read name change in education documents and migration certificate name correction.
What If the Name Changed After the Degree?
- Many candidates take the test some years after the master's degree, and many of them have married in between.
- A woman whose degrees carry her earlier name and whose Aadhaar carries her married name has a choice to make before she registers.
- She can type the name on her degrees. Every later reader then sees one name on the certificate and the degrees.
- Or she can type her married name, and keep the marriage certificate with her degrees for the rest of her career.
- Either is sound. A third form that no paper carries is not.
- A change by choice is different. It needs a Gazette, finished before the form.
Read name change after marriage and name correction in marriage registration certificate.
What About the Certificate, and Its Long Life?
- A candidate who qualifies gets a certificate, issued in the name on the application.
- Eligibility for a teaching post is not used once. A candidate may apply to colleges and universities for a decade on the same certificate.
- So a slip on it is met again at every application.
- A candidate who qualifies in more than one session may hold certificates in slightly different forms of the name. Each is then questioned against the other.
- Where a certificate carries a slip, write to the testing agency with the application and your degrees. Keep its reply with the certificate.
We could not confirm the agency's procedure for correcting an issued certificate. Do not count on one existing.
What About the Fellowship, and the Doctorate?
- Admission. A university admits a scholar to a doctorate on the test, on its own application and interview.
- Verification. It reads the test certificate against the master's degree, the earlier certificates and an identity paper.
- Registration. The scholar is registered in the name on those papers. The thesis and the degree will carry it.
- The fellowship. For those who qualify for one, it is activated through the university and paid by transfer.
- The bank account. In the scholar's own name, matching the award and the university's record.
A fellowship held up for a name is paid late, not lost. But a scholar lives on it month to month. Read name change in scholarship records and name change in bank records.
What Is Read at Recruitment as Assistant Professor?
- Colleges and universities recruit assistant professors through a public service commission or their own selection, on an advertisement.
- The application asks for the test certificate, and for every degree from class 10 upward.
- Marks from those degrees are often counted towards a score. Each marksheet is therefore read.
- At verification the originals are compared with one another, and with the application.
- After appointment a service record is opened in that name, and every later promotion looks back at it.
- A candidate who knows of a difference should carry the linking paper to the verification, and say so first.

How Does the Central Gazette Route Work?
Use this where your name has in fact been changed by choice, so that your degrees are right for a name you no longer use. It does nothing for a slip in the application.
Step 1: Confirm that your name has in fact changed
A slip on Aadhaar or a marksheet is corrected at its own office.
Step 2: Finish it before the form opens
A Gazette commonly takes 3 to 7 weeks, and the name field may not be editable afterwards.
Step 3: Fix the exact new name, and copy the old name from the class 10 certificate
Letter by letter.
Step 4: Make the affidavit and publish the newspaper notice
Sign before a notary. Publish in a daily local leading newspaper, and keep the original newspaper.
Step 5: Type the form and sign the undertaking
Two typed copies of the specimen, signed in your old name with two witnesses, and the undertaking.
Step 6: Prepare the CD, photographs and certificate
The same text on a CD in MS Word, two self-attested photographs with identity proof, and a certificate that both copies match.
Step 7: Pay the charge on BharatKosh
Commonly Rs 1,100 for an adult. It is not refunded.
Step 8: Send the file yourself, then update Aadhaar and keep the Gazette with your degrees
Send it to the Controller of Publications, Department of Publication, Civil Lines, Delhi 110054.
Would the Uttarakhand Gazette Do?
For a national test, and universities and commissions anywhere in the country, do not take the chance.
Step 1: Remember who reads the certificate
Universities and commissions across the country.
Step 2: Think about the fellowship, the bank and a post in another state
The Gazette of India serves them all.
Step 3: Contact the Roorkee press only if a state notice suits you
Take the contact from govtpress.uk.gov.in and ask if a private change of name notice is being accepted.
Step 4: Ask for the papers, the format and the fee, and submit
Keep photocopies of everything.
Step 5: Download the notice
Search gazettes.uk.gov.in and save the PDF.

Which Mistakes Do Candidates Make?
| Mistake | What to do |
|---|---|
| Counting on the correction window for your own name | Recent rounds did not allow it |
| Typing the name from Aadhaar where it differs from the degrees | Bring Aadhaar to the degrees first |
| Missing a window of two or three days | Note its dates the day you apply |
| Never comparing the two degrees with each other | Lay them side by side |
| Using a different form of the name in each session | Use one, every time |
| Inventing a third form of a married name | Use a name some paper carries |
| Opening the fellowship account in another form of the name | Match the award |
| Starting a Gazette after the result | Finish it before the form opens |
| Treating a spelling as a change of name | Correct the paper that differs |
A typical case we handle: a postgraduate in Srinagar, Garhwal, qualified in the test. Her master's degree read "Anjali Negi". Her Aadhaar had been updated after marriage to "Anjali Negi Rawat", and she had typed that in the form. A university questioned the difference at her doctoral admission, and her husband asked us for a Gazette. She did not need one, since she had only added a surname on marriage. She gave the university her marriage certificate with both papers, and was registered in the name on the certificate. This is an illustrative example of the type of case we handle, not a named client review.
When you do not need us
For a slip in the application, on Aadhaar, a marksheet or a certificate, and for a married surname. The testing agency, the office concerned or a marriage certificate settles those. We are useful where your name has in fact been changed by choice and a Gazette notification is needed.

Names in the UGC NET Form: The Short Version
Type your own name exactly as on your degree papers, and treat it as final. In the 2024 and 2025 rounds it could not be edited, though the date of birth, the category and the parents' names could, in a window of two or three days. Before the form opens, bring Aadhaar and both degrees to one name. The certificate is issued in the name you type, and universities and commissions read it against your degrees for years.
