Anganwadi and ASHA Worker Recruitment Name Mismatch in Uttarakhand
For women applying to be an anganwadi worker, a helper or an ASHA, whose school certificates carry a maiden name and a father's name while the papers of their present village carry a married name: what the selection reads, which paper links the two, and what to put right before the form closes.
An anganwadi and ASHA worker recruitment name mismatch is usually a maiden name on school certificates and a married name on the papers of the present village. It is cured by the marriage certificate, which links the two, and by getting residence and other certificates issued in one form of the name. A Gazette is seldom needed.

These posts go to a woman of the centre's own village or ward. An anganwadi and ASHA worker recruitment name mismatch follows from that rule: the candidate studied in her parents' village under one name and lives in her husband's under another. This page explains anganwadi and ASHA worker recruitment name mismatch for women in Uttarakhand.
We do not fill forms or deal with the departments, and this subject seldom needs a Gazette. What a recruitment notice asks for differs from round to round. We did not read the state's current notice or its selection rules, and what follows is general guidance. For the stage where originals are read, see name mismatch at document verification.
What Are the Posts, and Who Selects?
| Post | Works under | Chosen by |
|---|---|---|
| Anganwadi worker | The state's department for women empowerment and child development, at an anganwadi centre | The department's district and project offices, on applications. News reports of the 2025 round say applications were taken online |
| Anganwadi helper | The same centre, assisting the worker | The same offices, on a lower qualification |
| ASHA | The health mission, in her own village | A local process among the women of the village, with the health centre |
All three are honorary posts paid an honorarium or incentives, and all three are meant for a local woman. That last word is where the papers come in. A woman has to show, on paper, that she is of that place.
What Does the Selection Read?
Notices differ by round and district. These are the things most of them ask a candidate to prove.
| What is to be proved | Usual paper | The name it carries |
|---|---|---|
| Education and marks | Class 10 and class 12 certificates and marksheets | Maiden name, father's name |
| Age | The class 10 certificate | Maiden name |
| Residence in the centre's area | The family register, a residence certificate, the voter list or the ration card | Usually the married name, as wife of |
| Identity | Aadhaar | Either, depending on when it was made or updated |
| A priority, where claimed | A widow's, divorce or income certificate, as the notice lists | Usually the married name |
| A reservation, where claimed | A caste certificate | Often made before marriage, in the father's name |
Look down the last column. No candidate did anything wrong, and the file still carries two names. The reader's question is a fair one: are these one woman?
Why Do the Papers Split in Two?
- School. A girl studies in her parents' village. Her certificates carry her given name, perhaps with "Kumari", and her father's name.
- Marriage. She moves to her husband's village. Nothing changes on any paper that day.
- The family register. The panchayat enters her in her husband's family, as his wife, in whatever form of the name the family gives.
- The voter list and the ration card. Added later, as wife of, sometimes with "Devi" or the husband's surname.
- Aadhaar. Made before marriage in one name, or after it in another, or updated halfway.
- The application. All of these are put in one envelope for the first time.
A woman who was "Kumari Sunita, daughter of Ram Singh" at school is "Sunita Devi, wife of Mohan Singh Rawat" in the family register and "Sunita Rawat" on Aadhaar. She has never changed her name. Three offices each wrote her as they saw her.
What Kinds of Mismatch Are There?
Maiden name against married name
- "Kumari" or a father's surname on school papers, "Devi" or a husband's surname elsewhere
- Both are right for their dates
- Linked by the marriage certificate. No correction is needed to the school papers
A spelling
- The given name itself is spelt differently on Aadhaar, the family register or a certificate
- A slip
- Corrected at the office whose paper is wrong
A wrong father's or husband's name
- A certificate names the husband where the form asks for the father, or carries either name wrongly
- The reader cannot place the candidate in a family
- A fresh certificate, typed from the right papers
The first kind is the rule, not the exception. It needs explaining, with one paper. The other two need correcting. Read Kumari, Devi and the husband’s surname.
Which Case Is Yours?
| The situation | Route | Gazette? |
|---|---|---|
| School papers in a maiden name, residence papers in a married name | The marriage certificate, attached to the application | No |
| Aadhaar has a spelling slip | Correct Aadhaar | No |
| The family register spells the name wrongly | A correction by the panchayat | No |
| A residence or caste certificate carries a different form | A fresh certificate from the tehsil | No |
| There is no marriage certificate | Apply for one. Use the family register meanwhile | No |
| The date of birth differs between class 10 and Aadhaar | Correct Aadhaar to class 10 | No |
| A widow's papers carry her husband's name differently | Correct the paper that differs from his death certificate | No |
| The given name itself was changed after school, for all purposes | Gazette. There is rarely time within one round | Yes |
A Gazette appears once in eight rows, and it is the one that cannot be done before a form closes. Everything else can.
What Should You Do Before the Form Closes?
Step 1: Read the notice for the post
Which area the centre serves, the qualification, the age, and the papers it lists.
Step 2: Lay out your school certificates
Write your name, your father's name and your date of birth as they read there.
Step 3: Lay out the papers of your present home
Aadhaar, the family register, the residence certificate, the voter list and the ration card.
Step 4: Mark where the two sets differ
Usually a surname, a husband's name in place of a father's, or a spelling.
Step 5: Get the marriage certificate
It is the one paper that carries both sides: your parents and your husband.
Step 6: Correct what is plainly a slip
A spelling on Aadhaar or in the family register, at its own office.
Step 7: Get fresh certificates in one form of your name
Residence, caste, income and any priority certificate, all reading alike.
Step 8: Fill the application in the name on your school certificates
And attach the marriage certificate, so the reader sees the link at once.
How Do You Prove You Belong to the Centre's Area?
- The post is for a woman of the village or ward the centre serves. That is the first thing a rival candidate will challenge.
- The family register. The panchayat's record of each family. It names the candidate as wife or daughter-in-law of the household. Ask for a recent extract, and read how it spells you.
- A residence certificate. Issued by the tehsil. Have it made in the name your application carries, with your husband's name as it reads elsewhere.
- The voter list. It shows that you are enrolled at that address.
- The ration card. It shows you in that household.
- These four are made by four offices. Read them together, and correct the one that differs before a rival reads them for you.
- A woman who lives in the village and is still on her parents' family register and voter list elsewhere is not, on paper, of the village. Have the entries moved.
Read name correction in the family register, name change in residence certificate, name change in voter ID and name change in ration card.
What About Marriage, Widowhood and Divorce?
Married
- The marriage certificate names the bride with her father, and the groom
- It is the one paper that shows the daughter and the wife are one woman
- A marriage solemnised years ago can still be registered
- Read the certificate when it is issued. It has to match your school papers on one side and your husband's on the other
Widowed or divorced
- Many notices give a priority to widows and to divorced or deserted women
- A widow shows her husband's death certificate. His name on it should match the family register
- A divorced woman shows the court's decree
- A priority certificate, where the notice asks for one, is made at the tehsil in the same form of the name
Marriage does not by itself change a woman's name, and nobody is obliged to take a husband's surname. Read name correction in marriage registration certificate, is name change compulsory after marriage and divorce decree as proof for a name change.
What About Marks, Age and the School Papers?
- Where selection is on merit, it is the marks on school certificates that decide. Those papers have to be beyond question.
- So the application is safest in the name those certificates carry, with the present name shown through the marriage certificate.
- Age is commonly read from the class 10 certificate. A different date on Aadhaar raises a doubt that is easy to remove beforehand.
- A candidate whose class 10 and class 12 certificates differ from each other should settle that first. A board corrects its own record only within limits and time.
- A woman who studied in another state, as many brides in the border districts did, shows that state's certificates. They are valid, and their name is the one to follow.
Read name change in education documents and date of birth correction.
How Does an ASHA's Selection Differ?
- An ASHA is a health worker of her own village, under the health mission. She is not appointed on a marks list in the same way.
- She is commonly chosen through a local process: the women of the village, the gram sabha or a village health committee, with the health centre.
- The same things are looked at on paper: that she is of the village, her age, her schooling and her marital status.
- Because the village knows her, the name question arises later, at the bank. Her incentives are paid by transfer, to an account in the name the health record carries.
- So an ASHA should see that her name in the health centre's record, on Aadhaar and on her bank account is one name from the first day.
We did not read the health mission's current guidelines for the state. Ask the health centre. Read self-help group records name mismatch.
What Matters After Selection?
- The engagement record. The office enters the worker in a name. Ask which, and see that it is the one on your Aadhaar and bank account.
- The bank account. The honorarium is paid by transfer. An account in another form of the name can send it back.
- The department's own systems. Workers are registered on the department's applications by Aadhaar and mobile number.
- Insurance and welfare cover. Schemes for these workers are claimed by a nominee. Name the nominee as on the nominee's Aadhaar.
- An objection. A rival may complain that the selected woman is not of the village or holds wrong papers. A file with the marriage certificate in it answers that quickly.
Read name change in bank records and Jan Dhan account name mismatch.
Where Does a Gazette Come In?
Seldom. A married surname is linked by the marriage certificate, and a spelling is corrected at its own office. A Gazette is for a woman whose given name itself was changed after school, for all purposes.
Step 1: Confirm that your name has in fact changed
A married surname is linked by the marriage certificate. A spelling is corrected at the office concerned.
Step 2: Look at the last date
A Gazette commonly takes 3 to 7 weeks. It will not arrive in time for a form that closes this month.
Step 3: Fix the exact new name, and copy the old name from your school certificate
Letter by letter.
Step 4: Make the affidavit and publish the newspaper notice
Sign before a notary. Publish in a daily local leading newspaper, and keep the original newspaper.
Step 5: Type the form and sign the undertaking
Two typed copies of the specimen, signed in your old name with two witnesses, and the undertaking.
Step 6: Prepare the CD, photographs and certificate
The same text on a CD in MS Word, two self-attested photographs with identity proof, and a certificate that both copies match.
Step 7: Pay the charge on BharatKosh
Commonly Rs 1,100 for an adult. It is not refunded.
Step 8: Send the file yourself, then update Aadhaar and your certificates
Send it to the Controller of Publications, Department of Publication, Civil Lines, Delhi 110054.
Would the Uttarakhand Gazette Do?
The offices that select are the state's and may accept it. Aadhaar and the bank are the reasons to prefer the Gazette of India.
Step 1: Ask the project office which Gazette it accepts
The selection is made by state offices.
Step 2: Think about Aadhaar and the bank
The Gazette of India serves them all.
Step 3: Contact the Roorkee press
Take the contact from govtpress.uk.gov.in and ask if a private change of name notice is being accepted.
Step 4: Ask for the papers, the format and the fee, and submit
Keep photocopies of everything.
Step 5: Download the notice
Search gazettes.uk.gov.in and save the PDF.
To weigh the two, read Uttarakhand Gazette vs Gazette of India.
Which Mistakes Do Candidates Make?
| Mistake | What to do |
|---|---|
| Applying with no marriage certificate | Get it, and attach it |
| Filling the form in the married name while marks are in the maiden name | Apply in the school name, and show the link |
| Getting each certificate made in a different form of the name | Ask for all in one form |
| Not reading the family register extract | Read how it spells you and your husband |
| Still being on the parents' voter list | Move the entry to your present village |
| Letting a cyber cafe type the form from Aadhaar | Type it from your school certificate |
| Rushing for a Gazette before a last date | The marriage certificate does the work |
| Giving a husband's bank account for the honorarium | Your own account, in your Aadhaar name |
| Paying someone who promises selection | Nobody can. The list is made on papers |
A typical case we handle: a woman in a village of Bageshwar applied to be an anganwadi worker. Her class 12 certificate read "Kumari Geeta, daughter of Dhan Singh". Her family register and residence certificate read "Geeta Devi, wife of Pratap Singh Koranga", and her Aadhaar "Geeta Koranga". A rival objected that these were three women. Her husband rang us for a Gazette, with ten days to the hearing. None was needed, and none could have come in time. The couple had their marriage registered, and the certificate named her with both her father and her husband. This is an illustrative example of the type of case we handle, not a named client review.
When you do not need us
Nearly always, for these posts. The marriage registrar, the panchayat, the tehsil and the Aadhaar centre do the work. We are useful only where a woman's given name was in fact changed after school and a Gazette notification is asked for.
Which Areas of Uttarakhand Do We Cover?
All 13 districts: Dehradun, Haridwar, Pauri Garhwal, Tehri Garhwal, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Uttarkashi, Nainital, Udham Singh Nagar, Almora, Bageshwar, Champawat and Pithoragarh. The papers are made right at your own panchayat and tehsil. Send photos on WhatsApp and we will tell you which one to correct.

That the state's department for women empowerment and child development invited online applications for anganwadi posts in 2025 is from news reports. We did not read that notice, the state's selection rules or the health mission's guidelines for ASHAs. What a selection commonly asks a candidate to prove, the local-resident rule, the priorities and how an ASHA is chosen are general, and differ by round and district. Which paper links or corrects a name is our general guidance. The notice for the post, and the project office or the health centre, are the authority.

Names in an Anganwadi or ASHA Application: The Short Version
The post is for a woman of the centre's own area, so most candidates hold school papers in a maiden name and residence papers in a married one. Neither is wrong. The marriage certificate links them, so obtain it and attach it. Apply in the name on your school certificates, since marks decide. Have the family register, the residence certificate, the voter list and Aadhaar read alike, and correct a plain spelling at its own office.
A married surname needs no Gazette. To find out which paper to correct, send photos on WhatsApp 9540005064, and we will reply in working hours.
